Campaign description

I’m Joanna Wróblewska and I’m an ordinary person, who had been living a normal life. Work, teaching, everyday life routines, planning the summer work at one of the summer schools in the UK and Zumba Fitness classes had filled each day. On 2 November 2015, my life so far ended because of the car accident. Around 8pm I was on my home from from Zumba classes, but I never made it home… Someone pushed me of the road and I hit a tree… I was 4 km away from home.

Next thing I remember is a hospital ward. It turned out that that I’d been in medically induced coma cause of severe craniocerebral trauma and numerous broken bones for a week. In consequence, I could only move my left hand. I was diagnosed with tetraplegia. I was confused and unaware what the path I’d have to take to be healthy and fit again.

Joanna Wróblewska

On 5 January 2016, I was admitted at the Rehabilitation Clinic in one of the hospitals in Bydgoszcz, where I was learning how to move from the scratch. I was working with physiotherapists, and not only,  as much as it was possible and in the evenings I was trying to walk pushing my wheelchair, which wheels were blocked, so I could control it. I only wanted to walk… After nearly 3 months I made it, I left the hospital on my feet. But It was’t the end. I started to rehabilitate in private rehabilitation centres, where I have an opportunity to work with physiotherapists for 4 or more hours a  day and undergo therapies which help my nervous system and brain restore all the damages. Owing to intensive rehabilitation I am able to walk, however, I need someone beside me, cause I have problems with keeping the balance and I fall down.

Joanna Wróblewska

When specialists or doctors see me and read the list of my injuries, they can’t believe that I’m in a such good condition, both mentally and physically. I hope and believe that one day I will get my life back… I will teach English, do Zumba, travel, go back to the UK… live my life to the fullest… Intensive rehabilitation and time, that’s all I need…
