Fundraiser description
Adaś was born as an extremely premature infant at 26 weeks. We did not have any idea that this was going to be a premature pregnancy – it came to us as a great shock. We were frightened when we learned that it was life-threatening for the mother and child. Our son was a little baby, he weighed only 940 grams, and after a couple of days, it was even less.
He had to cope with many complications that come with a premature birth. He was on a ventilator for 10 days and when he was taken off it, he experienced haemorrhages, grade 3-4 which resulted in post-haemorrhagic hydrocephalus. Our son had to undergo a couple of neurological surgeries to drain cerebrospinal fluid.

Unfortunately, it also was accompanied by staphylococcal infection that wreaked havoc in our baby’s brain and stage IV retinopathy that required laser therapy to save the infant’s vision. We were horrified but most importantly, Adaś was alive and was able to breathe on his own. Due to the active hydrocephalus Adaś needed a ventriculoperitoneal shunt that is going to stay with him for the rest of his life.
Since he left hospital in October 2014, he has been undergoing intensive rehabilitation. Adam was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, spastic diplegia and retinopathy. Ventriculoperitoneal shunt drain had to be replaced one time as it had been damaged which caused swelling of the optic nerve. Unfortunately the whole work Adaś had done with vision therapist over the years was wasted

After many different consultations we now know that there is a long way ahead of us... But there is something that could help Adaś function better. He needs leg surgery that will help him become more mobile. The specialists from the Paley European Institute are ready to help but the cost of the surgery is too high for us. For the first time, we have decided to ask for financial help... It is very difficult but we hope to find people willing to help Adaś.
Our son would like to achieve so much more but his mobility and vision are limited... Each, even the smallest donation, is very appreciated by us! This surgery will give Adaś a chance to improve his mobility, everyday functioning and for better life in the society.
