Fundraiser description

It is hard to recall some memories, but we need to refresh them so that you could understand why and for whom this money-raising has been organised. This is the story of our brave son Adrian who is suffering from cerebral palsy. He is just over two years old and has already achieved so much, despite the fact that from the very beginning he is going uphill...

Adrianek Wrucha

We will not forget the night from December 31, 2016 to January 1, 2017 for the rest of our lives. I was 30 weeks pregnant and the contractions, which unexpectedly woke me up around 2 am, were unfortunately not light ones. The ten minutes we spent on the way to the hospital was in a terrifying silence. The tears came to our eyes because contractions every 3 minutes did not bode well.

The four-hour struggle to stop the delivery ended in a life-saving C-section. Adrianek spent almost 2 months at the ICU in a hospital in Rzeszów. Our boy, weighing only 1550 g, seemed lost in a thicket of cables and all kinds of life-saving machines. During the first days of his life, Adrian had bilateral hemorrhages of the second degree. When we left the hospital the doctors assured us that everything would be all right and the rehabilitation would help my son catch up with his peers. What actually happened – was completely different...

When a healthy child is one year old, his parents usually expect the first step and the first words. Our son was still a lying baby on his first birthday... It was only when he was almost 13 months old that he managed to turn from his back to his tummy for the first time. A lot has changed since then. Adrian took an intensive rehabilitation, classes with a speech therapist, psychologist and massages. All this led us to the point where our son began to say simple words and knew how to move from one place to another in his own way.

However, he still couldn’t sit down, crawl properly and not to mention gait. Tweezers didn't work out yet. Usually, the parent of a healthy child does not even think about such issues. Our dream is for Adrianek to be able to eat a plate of soup with a spoon or draw a few lines with a pencil even if it would be a simple doodle. I would like to see him run with his older sister and play football with his dad. Is that too much? In the middle of last year, thanks to the support of many thousands of helpers, we were able to fly to modern stem cell therapy in Bangkok. Adrian has gone through 8 transplants - 3 intravenously and 5 into the spinal cord (a total of 400 million cells) with a rehabilitation package. The effects have exceeded our expectations ...

Adrian did not walk before the therapy, did not crawl, could not hold anything in two fingers and he only spoke a few simple words. Today, more than 6 months after the last application of stem cells, our son speaks simple sentences and understands everything that is said to him. He has a better memory and better understands the world around him. He can say a few verses from his favorite poems, e.g. "Lokomotywa”. Adrian also learnt a simple prayer and tries to say it before bedtime. He became a child who is no different than his peers when it comes to speech. He can grab anything with two fingers. Even the smallest crumb from the floor. He can sit on his own and has a great desire to learn to get up on his feet. Muscle tension has decreased and working with him during rehabilitation time is much easier. His therapists can see a huge improvement in the stability of the torso. What is more, he finally understands why he needs to do all these exercises to get up.

Seeing such a great progress we decided to fly back to Bangkok. We have to do this because now we know that it is right. However, this is once again associated with enormous costs. That is why we are asking again for your support ...

As parents - we must do everything possible to help our son grow up. Now this is the best time. Adrianek is still small and his brain is "plastic" and absorbent. We deeply believe that our second trip to Thailand would be a great opportunity for our son to continue his development and fulfill his dreams of becoming independent.
