Fundraiser description
Alicia’s issues with spine started when she was still very young. During one of the check-ups, the paediatrician noticed some concerning symptoms. She immediately underwent diagnostics and soon we had the diagnosis: scoliosis – sideways curve of the spine.
We did not wait. Her rehabilitation started and we consulted her with the best orthopaedists. We have been using the FED method, which was beneficial, however, with time, the curve started getting worse.
Alicia’s attending physician explained to us that there are different effects for different types of scoliosis – some of them develop despite the therapy. She started using a corset. Ala had to wear it night and day. During the first months, it stopped the progression of the disease but unfortunately, with time, it worsened again.

In the last two years the situation has significantly worsened. The curve progressed so fast that currently Ala needs surgery. We started consultations and looking for the best solution again. Unfortunately, the period of Ala’s intensive growth is over now, so the less invasive methods are no longer an option.
Her scoliosis is bilateral – there is a 40-42-degree curve in the upper part of her spine. Additionally, there is an internal rotation of the spine. In Poland, the only available method is spinal fusion which provides rigid stabilisation. This surgery would mean no mobility in the spine, from the first cervical vertebra to the wing of ilium.
It means no sports, no active life and above all, no guarantee that the chronic pain and the effects of the disease will be eliminated. We cannot accept that. For our daughter, it is a sentence!

There is hope abroad. In a Milan clinic Alicja can undergo a surgical procedure called ASC (Anterior Scoliosis Correction) – it is a less invasive method which does not stabilise the spine in a rigid position and allows for its mobility. It is the only chance for an active life, without pain, without a wheelchair and without the need to give up dreams and passions.
Unfortunately, the cost of the surgery is enormous and time is of the essence. The success of the operation depends, among others, on Alicja’s age – the sooner she undergoes the surgery, the bigger the chance of success.
Alicia is 17 years old and she has her whole life ahead of her. Last years she was a vice-champion of Poland in SANDA. She is also a member of the Polish national team. She has the strength of a fighter and the will to fight but she cannot win this battle on her own. For this reason, we are asking for your help with all our heart. Each donation, share, or pledging 1.5% of tax is very meaningful.
Thank you for every kind gesture!
