Fundraiser description
Our whole world changed in one day—it might sound surreal or like nonsense, but that’s what happened to us. We weren’t prepared for that at all, we were acting emotionally. However, it paid off because thanks to our quick intervention we were able to save our little Bartek’s life, and now we are fighting for his physical ability!
The first symptoms of our son’s disease came out in 2020. That’s when the pandemic started, and the schools were closed. Bartek went to a bow shooting with his father. One of the arrows fell on the ground. Our son didn’t notice it, although it was right at his foot. We were struck with an enormous fear. Next, his headaches became stronger. We rushed to the eye doctor, who, after multiple eye examinations, noticed something disturbing. The next day, we went to the neurologist and the following week, our little son was already in the operating room, undergoing hours-long surgery to remove his brain tumour.
Bartek spent 4 days in the ICU. That’s where the side effects of the brain tumour came out. During his month-and-a-half-long stay in the clinic, other complications appeared. After a week from the main surgery, another surgery was required. It all resulted in a loss of vision, underactive pituitary gland, and diabetes insipidus. These were the main complications that resulted from having the brain tumour.
How can you explain to a boy who is about to go to school, develop his hobbies and fulfil his dreams, that his life is going to change completely overnight? How can we come to terms with the fact that our beloved child must fight a disease that is a ticking bomb?
Every day, our little son makes a stand against the world, against all odds. He’s an energetic, wise, constantly smiling, and talkative boy. Six months after the surgery, he went to school with his friends from pre-school. My son is a warrior. Besides his fantastic grades and being cheerful, he’s also successful in sports, which lets him forget about the hospital wards and doctor's appointments.
What we are left with is hope, that we’re done with our bad experience. And that hope was gone when we heard about the relapse, the pressure on optic nerves, which are already deformed, and satellite nodule in ears— which makes the upcoming surgery even more dangerous. What’s left of his sight and his hearing are at stake…
Currently, the best solution for us is the surgery abroad, in Tübingen, which costs hundreds of thousands of Polish zlotys. It could cure little Bartek…
Sometimes, my son asks me how does it feel to see, because he doesn’t remember. What does our house look like, what do I, his mother, look like? That’s why I ask you to help my son, to save him… So he could be able to see me again and admit this is how he remembered the world surrounding him!
