Every second of my life is filled with pain

One step, one second can ruin it all. Basia has been suffering for most of her life because of an accident that happened 14 years ago. She was only 19-months-old then. She was a healthy and a beautiful child. She was starting to walk and talk, she was smiling and full of energy all the time … it was one false step. Basia lost her balance and fell down the stairs. The fall turned out to have tragic consequences for Basia. Basia’s body and brain were seriously damaged. The damages proved to be irreversible.

Basia was in a coma for a week. After she had come out of her coma it became obvious the damages are so serious that Basia lost all her abilities she already had. She could not talk and walk any more. Spastic tetraparesis is Basia’s worst enemy now. The battle has lasted for years now, its purpose – at least a bit of normal life. There has been no much of it lately because of an unimaginable pain.

Through the years Basia experienced numerous treatments and operations. Last year however brought big and bad changes. It started form hip dislocation and led Basia to an ultimate pain. She had six operations including one neurosurgical and four orthopedic. Due to a medical error during and operation in Poland (Basia had her leg broken during the operation) she was operated on in Aschau Clinic in Germany 3 times. As a result of those operations (hip and broken leg) Basia got much better. Unfortunately another serious problem emerged. Deepening spinal curvature puts her life in danger. Progressive scoliosis not only causes an unbearable pain but also endangers Basia’s life by causing possible problems with breathing, pressure on internal organs and others.

Basia has been referred to another clinic in Germany that specializes in spine treatment as complicated as she requires. She has been qualified for an operation that will be most complicated out of all done so far. It will ease the pain, diminish the deformation of the spine and stop the progressing scoliosis. As a result Basia’s life will be saved. The cost of the operation together with 2-week stay in the clinic is EUR 52,400! We have very little time as we are supposed to show up in the clinic on 29th of March and the operation is planned on 4th of April …

I am so afraid we will not make it on time.

I beg for help. I know this operation will change Basia’s life dramatically. I am so scared but I know there is no other way. As I wrote so many times, the only thing I dream of is life without pain… Please, help my little girl, may she not suffer any more!
