Fundraiser description

On March 21 of this year, our father (62 yo) suffered severe traumatic brain injury due to an unfortunate fall. The injuries included a CSF leak, cerebral edema, massive subarachnoid hemorrhage, damage to the right parietal lobe, and fractures in the temporal and parietal bones.

Urgently, a part of Dad’s skull bone was removed, along with a hematoma. Following the surgery, he was put in a pharmacologically induced coma to sustain his vital functions. The initial prognosis was grim, and Dad’s condition was critical.

However, against all odds, a miracle occurred - Dad survived.

We took turns being by his side, as only individual visits were allowed. Every time we saw him, our hearts broke. We fervently prayed for him to wake up, talking and singing to him, hoping he could hear us.

Four days after the sedation stopped, another miracle happened - Dad regained consciousness.

In the first few days after awakening, he could only slightly move his right arm and leg. His eyesight was unfocused, and he couldn’t follow the doctors' instructions, leaving little hope for improvement. However, each passing day brought little progress, and most importantly, he began responding to stimuli and to ourwords.

At present, Dad can barely move his limbs. The left side, especially the left arm, is significantly weaker. The situation is slightly better in terms of the right side. However, strong muscle tremors prevent him from performing activities when he tries to move.

Dad has been confined to bed for nearly two months without psychological support or functional physiotherapy. It has led to significant muscle atrophy and deep depression, eroding his motivation to attempt any physical activity. He cannot sit or pull himself up on the bed, and even holding a small exercise ball becomes a challenge.

Dad relied on a tracheal tube for six weeks, which has been removed since. He is now able to breathe on his own. However, he still requires a g-tube for feeding, as swallowing food remains impossible. Even opening his mouth is still a challenge.

Another concern is Dad’s inability to speak. Occasionally, it seems like he wants to express something, but unfortunately, not a single word can escape his lips. Eye contact serves as his primary form of communication. He nods his head or moves his hand to answer questions, although not consistently.

Some days, Dad appears completely detached, growing increasingly withdrawn. It breaks our hearts to witness him trapped within his own body.

Dad is insured, regularly pays health insurance, and is entitled to hospital neurological rehabilitation by law. However, we have been unable to find a department willing to accept him in his current condition. The only option offered by the healthcare system is an assisted living facility.

After consulting with many specialists, we know there is a chance to restore lost functions with specialist physiotherapy implemented as soon as possible, with the participation of a neurological speech therapist and a psychologist.

It is why we decided to place Dad in a private physiotherapy clinic in Góra Kalwaria, where he will be transferred in the upcoming days. A monthly stay costs PLN 19,500 plus additional fees (4000 GBP + fees).

The physiotherapy period can take many months, creating costs far exceeding the financial capabilities of our entire family.

Therefore, with pain, we are forced to ask for financial support. The collected amount will be used for physiotherapy in the aforementioned center and will provide Dad with the best possible conditions in the fight for recovery.

Unused funds for this purpose will be donated to others in need.

Dad has four daughters and five grandchildren, all eagerly awaiting his return.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who have offered their support during this challenging time.

We are immensely grateful for any assistance provided.

With heartfelt appreciation,

daughters: Justyna, Kasia, Gabrysia, Ola, and wife Beata
