Fundraiser description

Tomek is still bravely fighting for health! Help still needed.

During the last year a lot has happened in Tomek's life.

After a few weeks' stay in the Intensive Care Unit, we came to the conclusion (together with the management of this unit) that only a specialized rehabilitation center can provide the necessary further treatment.

After consultations with many facilities, Tomek and his mother ended up in one of them. After a few weeks, however, the situation related to COVID-19 forced Tomek to return home.

Fighting for further progress in rehabilitation we organized the necessary care at home. Unfortunately also in this case the pandemic has significantly limited the form of rehabilitation.

Fortunately, systematic treatment in physiotherapy, neurologopedics or basal therapy among others, brought benefits! Tomek visited by his family and relatives made progress and his condition improved slightly.

However, as a result of the constantly worsening epidemiological situation, the scope of care was reduced and we were forced to look for other solutions. After many months of efforts we managed to place Tomek in one of the best rehabilitation center in Poland where he has been treated since July.

Since then, unfortunately, meetings are possible only in the form of teleconferences as the center is unavailable to relatives. The reason is fear for the health of other patients. The lack of the company of Tomek's friends adversely affects the progress in treatment, therefore we hope that in the near future we will be able to organize further medical care at home.

With the help of our Donors and Friends we have recently purchased a professional C-Eye set and when Tomek returns home he will be able to continue his rehabilitation using the equipment he is currently practicing in the center. He will be able to continue therapy and learn to communicate with us!

We hope and deeply believe that our Tomek will make progress and will be able to pass on to us even the simplest thoughts and needs.

After many months, we know one thing - Tomek will never give up and neither can we. We hope that with you, such wonderful people, we will continue to experience the support we have enjoyed so far. Once again, we thank you all and wish you good health and only good days in the New Year!

Family and friends of Tomek.

When in July last year it turned out that our Tomek has cancer, we were shocked. Until then, he was extremely active, he never complained about health. Despite this terrible information, he did not lose faith that he would recover and everything seemed to go in the right direction! There was tumor resection surgery and chemotherapy. The results were excellent. Tomek was supposed to take the last dose of chemotherapy. Then the tragedy happened ...

When we thought that it was possible to defeat the monster and now everything starts to fall into place, something happened that nobody expected ... On January 18 Tomek celebrated his 32nd birthday. We celebrated with Tomek and his fiancée Basia, with whom he was supposed to get married in May. It was the last day when we saw and heard Tomek safe and sound ...

On the night of January 18-19, cardiac arrest suddenly stopped. Heart massage to the arrival of the ambulance, road to the hospital, fear ... Tomek was in serious condition. The likely cause of cardiac arrest was chemotherapy ... The doctors immediately put Tomek into a pharmacological coma, the fight for life began. We could not believe that in a moment a happy, healthy man who had just defeated cancer was once again in the ring of a fight for life ...

After two weeks, doctors discontinued medication that maintained a pharmacological coma. So far, however, Tomek has not regained consciousness. Every day there is a process of waking him up - with smells, sounds, all possible stimuli ... We do not know yet whether and what havoc occurred in the brain. We must believe that our Tomek will wake up and it will be as before. We all fight for it and wait for it ...

Unfortunately, you know how rehabilitation at the National Health Fund looks like. This is a drop in the ocean of needs ... At the moment we are looking for the best-specialized center to take care of Tomek. There will probably be about two weeks in the hospital. None of us was prepared for this tragedy, and the costs of care and rehabilitation will be huge ...

Tomasz Jakubik

We know it will take time, nobody wakes up from a coma in a week or month. We will fight because we know that Tomek would do the same for us. However, we can't do it without help ...

We want to act and provide Tomek with the best care and rehabilitation. Please, help us, let's wake Tomek together!
