Let's save Damian's life!

On the occasion of our 40th birthday, we wanted to do a check-up with my husband. We didn’t expect to get a verdict in the results… Damian is fighting acute lymphoblastic leukemia! After the hardest year of our lives, today we know that there is one last hope - CAR-T Cells therapy, which is not refunded in Poland for adults! My husband’s life will cost about 1.7 million polish złoty (£300.000)… We ask with all our hearts for help, so that I don’t lose my husband, and Olga and Miłosz their father. So that Damian doesn’t lose his life…

It was December 2022. We decided to take advantage of the package for forty-year-olds and do a complete set of tests. We both felt good, but we care about our health, we have small children and we decided to check if everything is okay. It was supposed to be just a routine blood test… Meanwhile, it turned out from the results that my husband has LEUKEMIA. 

Instead of preparing for Christmas, there was a hospital. Damian got his first chemo a week before Christmas. On the 2nd day of Christmas, a blood transfusion was necessary, because the results were falling head over heels. And then we got the terrifying news - my husband had a stroke, a huge hematoma appeared in his head. 

We had to prepare for the worst… The chemo was stopped, my husband from hematology in Katowice was transferred to the neurological ward in Sosnowiec. He survived. But he suffered paralysis of the entire right side of his face and body. He didn’t say anything. 

In February he came home, or rather he left on a wheelchair. To the fight for life, there was a fight for fitness... 

With chemo in June, another breakdown - Damian suffered a septic shock! He fought for his life for the 2nd time, and we didn’t know if he would make it. It’s hard to describe that fear… He made it, but in August there was an infection. Again hospital, again fight! He slowly got out of it, but he suffered terribly. Horribly… The pain of muscles and joints did not subside, in the end only medical marijuana drowned it out. 

The doctors decided on chemo to the cerebrospinal fluid, because there were cancer cells there. It helped. The pain stopped. But at the same time we learned about the relapse...

The doctors decided on targeted immunotherapy, prolonging life. We went to Gliwice, where the doctor decided to risk a bone marrow transplant - hope for life for Damian! We were very afraid of this, because the transplant involves a huge risk. 

Unfortunately, it turned out that my husband has a rare HLA system and the donor cannot be matched! He could not be either his brother, or any other donor registered in the world database. A blow to the heart. 

Today, the only and last chance for Damian to beat leukemia is CAR-T Cells therapy. In Poland, it is refunded only for children and young adults. Abroad - for all patients… But not here and not for Damian. The doctors will undertake the treatment, but we have to pay for it ourselves. The cost of the drug alone ranges around 1.7 milion polish złoty (£300.000) 

We are terrified... 

Our doctor predicts a quick relapse. Then the therapy must be given immediately. We don’t know how much time we have - a few weeks, months? We have to act today. That’s why I ask you with all my heart for help... 

We can’t imagine Damian missing from our lives! Our little daughter Olga is only 8 years old. Son Miłosz - 11. They need a dad. I need a husband, and Damian wants to live so much… It’s not easy to ask for help, especially financial. We will never get such a huge amount ourselves. And here it’s about life.
