Jansen type of spondylometaphyseal dysplasia

Started: 17 April 2020
Ends: 11 January 2021

Probably instead of a comprehensive text, it would be enough for me to put only the photos in this collection. Crooked legs and arms, head at the height of the door handle. These features can be seen with the naked eye. The huge pain that comes with every attempt to take a step on these crooked legs - probably not. Twentyseven years of struggle for fitness and a fairly normal life - definitely not... I decided to show you these pictures and tell you about my illness, because finally I have a chance. An opportunity that costs well over 1 million PLN...

I was born with an extremely rare disease. In fact, only 6 people supposedly have it in the world, including me, unfortunately. I suffer from a genetic condition called "Jansen type of spondylometaphyseal dysplasia". When I was born, the doctors noticed the so-called "monkey grip", meaning differently arranged fingers and non-mineralized bones. The legs have just started to bend around sixth grade of elementary school, when I was entering adolescence...

In 2012, I underwent a complicated spine surgery in Zakopane, which fortunately closed one part of the front of the fight for my fitness. Things got worse with the legs. In fact, for many years they were not as big of a problem for me as they are today. I tried to be as independent as possible and get the most out of life. Unfortunately, the passage of time and gravity did their job... The weight of the body was increasingly pressing on the deformed joints, destroying them even more and in 2016 things got tough.

How many meters have you walked today without even thinking about it? Maybe the app told you that you have just achieved your goal - 10,000 steps. For me, each such step is pain, suffering, reluctance to take the next one. As if I had an infinite number of needles driven into my bones. In addition, it is very difficult to keep my balance. The slightly uneven pavement surface or stone underfoot makes me feel like I'm balancing on a thin rope. It’s very hard to explain it to a healthy person.

Nobody in Poland wanted to try a surgery on my legs. For many months I thought it just had to be this way. That pain will be permanently inscribed in my everyday life and that I can erase the word "independence" from my dictionary once and for all. A sad prospect, especially since my parents are getting older every year and it is more difficult for them to help me in carrying out normal activities. What will happen when they are gone? Whose burden will I be then? Fortunately, there is a light in the tunnel which appeared to me last year. I have learned about the existence of Dr. Paley, an American orthopaedist who specialises in all difficult cases in which other doctors helplessly spread their hands...

In January this year I was able to meet him at the consultation and hear the promise of life without pain. My sick, crooked legs can be straightened to help me finally use them for what they were created for - walking without tears and suffering. In addition, I would gain a few centimeters extra in height. For me, every centimeter like this is worth a ton of gold. Unfortunately, due to the complexity of my defect, each leg surgery costs well over a half a million zlotys.

I don't have that kind of money, so I am asking for your help. I want to live normally, on my own, so I won't be a burden to anybody. I want to make the most of the time that was given to me here on earth. Probably more than once some people passing me on the street thought to themselves: look, what a legs...! And they did not mean how beautiful, long or slender they are. As for me, my legs could even have a shape of a number eight, but only if you could walk on them without pain. I want it so badly, I hope you will help me...
