On February 24, the world changed forever. Right next to us, on the border with the Ukraine, bombs explode, innocent civilians die, lots of people lose their homes and go west towards the Polish border. With one suitcase in their hand and a whole set of health problems that have accompanied them for years ... That's why they need our help!
Due to the war in Ukraine, no one recalled the diseases. Especially the chronic ones that require constant access to specialized equipment that is at our fingertips in times of peace. Today in the country torn by war - very difficult to get. One of these diseases is diabetes that requires the regular monitoring of blood sugar levels. For years, we have been supporting families with children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes, and due to the war in our eastern neighbors, we have become particularly involved in helping diabetics who are escaping from there.
We are the association from Rzeszów in the Podkarpacie region. This is the reception region for Ukrainian refugees. Every week people with diabetes came here, usually for a few days and go further. They have no way of buying or ordering diabetes equipment they need. Even if they have some financial resources, they do not know where to buy it, they are really lost. That’s why we help them and provide what they need. Here, in Rzeszów, we provide emergency assistance for those in need.
We also provide constant care to those children with diabetes who stay in Poland, especially in Podkarpackie region. We help them with the access to specialist doctors (endocrinologist, diabetologist), we try to obtain funds for their treatment, especially for insulin pumps and CGM system (system of continuous glucose monitoring). Unfortunately, new cases of diabetes are also diagnosed, and children come to the hospital in Rzeszów directly from the border.
In the Ukraine there are still children with diabetes who, for various reasons, have remained in their homeland. The situation with access to medical supplies in Ukraine is dramatic. We help as we can, by donating things through organizations, associations and volunteers both: here in Poland and in Ukraine.
