Fundraiser description
Maria is a nine -year -old who desperately needs your help!
When she was born on the 11th of August 2011 our world collapsed- her left leg and foot were deformed. There were only two toes in her foot and we young parents not prepared for it in any way instead of celebrating her arrival started the battle against time. Doctors from our hometown directed us to Warsaw and there she was diagnosed with a fibular hemimelia - a very rare congenital disease which is not treated in Poland.

We consulted every possible doctor in our country and they all suggested amputation as the best solution for Maria. My husband did not stop looking for other solutios and one day found a miracle doctor from Florida- Mr Dror Paley who is a successful pioneer treating different types of leg deformities. He agreed to consult us in Munich and later on - to take Maria's case. Even though he listed numerous problems that Maria's leg had ( "shorter than average fibula, no tibia,no bone in the sole ) - it was the happiest moment since the day of Maria's birth! He actually let us believe there was future for our first beloved daughter!

There was -as there always must be- the catch though : the cost of the surgery, which seemed impossible to collect. Our NHS ,however, refunded that and three following surgeries! Her leg was positioned and reconstructed so that she could successfully use it to move. The panel of doctors in Poland did not know how to deal with such a complicated case and each time consented for the procedures in the USA.
Presently the refunds from Polish NHS have been stopped. This way years of sacrifice and struggle for the mobility of our daughter are going to be ruined.

Maria is supposed to have another lengthening procedure this year as the difference of the length of both legs is becoming bigger and bigger. If she is not operated her healthy leg may become distorted as well as the knees which may actually make her handicapped.
We have been fighting for so long that we cannot and will not give up now! The goal is Maria's mobility and we know we could and still can rely on help and generosity of those who care. We beg you to contribute to Maria's surgery and this way help her live a normal life!
