Fundraiser description

14 July 2021

Dear Friends, You have made it!
It's been a month since the surgery. I'm now back at home, feeling better and better every day.
I'd like to thank You all very much for your support and contribution - without it, my story might not have been so positive. I am very, very grateful to all of you.

Ewa Długołęcka

In the coming months, I will undergo rehabilitation. I am also awaiting final invoice from the INI clinic in Hannover. That's why the crowdfunding campaign will stay open for a little longer.

Thank you again for making it happen. I wish everyone a lot of love, joy and happiness.

Stay healthy!

A surgery of removing cavernoma from the brainstem needed urgently.

I had never thought that my life would depend so much on other people's help. Yet, here I am asking help of many people to whom I am a complete stranger.

I am 39  years old. In February this year, with sudden dizziness, I was addmitted to the hospital where I spent the following 5 weeks. In there, I was diagnosed with a cavernous hemangioma in the brainstem i.e. the part of the brain that serves a critical role in regulating vital life functions like breathing, heart rate, sight and hearing. It is big - of a 2 cm diameter. It turned out the cavernoma, as it is also called, was leaking. The stroke caused severe dizziness, numbness in the face and  loss of most of the feeling in the left hand side of the body. Since then the bleeding has stopped, however the symptoms are still there making it impossible to come back to work and have a normal life. Unfortunatelly, there is a constant threat that the cavernoma will start bleeding again. Another stroke, no matter how small, may cause paralysis or I may die.

Those who know me know how much attention I put to health. Until February I lead an active life; there was always space for self-development, travelling, realization of passion. I loved to learn, make friends and simply enjoy the opportunities that life gave me. Now, my future is determined by a lesion I never knew I had. Having been an independent person, I am now in a situation in which I require constant help.

The only way to get cured is a surgery and removing the cavernoma.

In Poland, surgery in such deep structures of the brain is done very rarely. What it means is that the risk of serious complications and death is much higher.
Studying opportunities abroad, I came across INI clinic in Hanover. Professor Bertalanffy has a 25-year-old experience operating on the brainstem. During a consultation, he addressed my concerns and cleared up all of my doubts. Having analysed my medical documentation and seen my current condition, Professor Bertalanffy recommended doing the surgery in the nearest future. Having the surgery soon is the best way to bring me back to life and restore my health.

The clinic has estimated the surgery at approx 75 000 Eur and this exceeds my current possibilities. Therefore, I am organizing this crowdfunding campaign. Together with my family we're not able to collect this amount in such a short time and that is why I am asking you to help. Additionally, in the months following the surgery I will need rehabilitation that will also consume significant resources.

Please support my cause. All contributions matter. I believe that thanks to your goodwill and support I will have a normal life again.

Ewa
