Fundraiser description

I wish I were the best and the healthiest mom for my little daughter. I hope I could run with her, go to the playground, and help her climb a jungle gym. Because of my disease, I cannot lift or put her in a swing. I can only dream of riding a bicycle with her or going to a swimming pool together. The thought of the inability to do all those things just breaks my heart… It is why I know that I cannot surrender in my fight for recovery!

Due to my degenerative scoliosis and related breathing difficulties, I underwent two surgeries when I was 36. The first one was performed in June 2007 and included lumbar treatment. The second one took place in March 2008 and was also supposed to stiffen my spine, but this time in the thoracic area. In both cases, implants were installed. Unfortunately, despite the procedures, scoliosis continued.

I could function like others until May when I was rushed to the emergency room with terrible pain in my spine. The CT scan showed a fracture of the implant placed in one of the vertebrae. I could not believe what happened next…

In July, I was admitted to the emergency room with the same symptoms. The doctors suspected a dislocated metallic frame after the implant fracture. Another CT scan showed a fractured implant that must have been damaged a couple of years before and had been stuck in my body, causing multiple spine-related problems! I required urgent surgery.

I consulted many doctors who specialized in scoliosis surgery in adults. I found out, that there was an opportunity to undergo a complex therapy, which is unfortunately non-reimbursable. The treatment plan includes two surgeries to remove the entire implant, an osteotomy (bone cutting) to realign the abnormal curvature of my spine, and finally, spine stabilization. The cost of both procedures is as much as 250,000 Polish zlotys! My husband and I cannot afford it. If I fail to undergo the surgeries, I will face implant damage again and consequently dislocation of the metallic structure and damage to my internal organs! It will be a life-threatening condition, not just a health risk!

My further treatment will be impossible without you. Currently, only painkillers keep me on my feet. I am only able to walk my daughter to kindergarten. However, I want so much more—to be with her, enjoy time spent with her, have fun with her, play with her, and take an active part in her growth. Surgeries are my only solution to regain my physical abilities and say goodbye to pain! So I am asking you from the bottom of my heart—please donate!
