Fundraiser description

I never imagined I would find myself in such a difficult position or be told there was no hope for me. No one is ever ready to hear that!

My world turned upside down in October 2019. That's when I developed distressing symptoms like constant fatigue, body pain, and breathing difficulties. Once energetic and fond of an active lifestyle, I was becoming weak. I had no idea what was happening to me. I consulted many doctors, but in their opinion, nothing was out of the ordinary - it must have been a temporary weakness. I thought so, too!

Unfortunately, my condition deteriorated even more. I started having an acute pain in my chest. Again, the doctors were helpless. Only this time, I heard I might have had osteoporosis. It wasn't until I returned to the hospital to get an MRI scan that I learned the terrifying truth. I had myeloma - a type of bone marrow cancer. I was immediately referred to a cancer unit and started the treatment.

The diagnosis made me go weak in the knees. I didn't even have time to come to terms with it when, in late November, I faced another terrible news - I found out I had breast cancer. I felt I lost everything. I was devastated but ready to put up a good fight. I underwent a mastectomy in December and continued my chemotherapy.

I had five treatments in four years. The one for myeloma failed since the cancer was drug-resistant. Every week, I drove to the hospital to get various types of chemo. Unfortunately, due to my poor health condition, I couldn't have either an autologous transplant (from my own body) or an allogeneic transplant (from a donor).

I stayed in the hospital for four months. I had fevers that didn't go away, a thrombosis, pulmonary infarction, and endocarditis. I've lost a lot of weight. I've been living in pain that is worse than fear.

My latest doctor's appointment was the last straw, though. He said that there were no more treatment solutions left for me in Poland, and all he could recommend was CAR T-cell Therapy, which I had to find by myself.

I felt like I was drowning and couldn't catch my breath. At that very moment, my only wish was to STAY ALIVE! I wanted to wake up every morning without anxiety and pain.

Thankfully, my beloved daughters helped me find dedicated facilities! We have already contacted the clinics in Germany, the Netherlands, and Israel. The effective CAR T-cell therapy uses immune cells called T-cells modified in the lab to find and destroy cancer cells.

Although I haven't been qualified for treatment yet, I already know it is going to be expensive. We won't be able to save such an enormous amount of money on time!

I must start the treatment as soon as possible. Since I stopped the chemo, I've had much less time left on earth. That is why we have started our fundraiser. Dear all, please donate and share if you can. Only you can offer me a chance to stay alive!

Helena
