Ignaś has been suffering since he was born! Help us end his struggle!

This is not how we imagined Ignacy’s first hours of life. We’d had our dreams and plans for the future already. We had thought that our son would be born on time, receive an Apgar score of 10, and we would come back home after a couple of days. Unfortunately,  Ignaś was born already at 29 weeks of gestation and had to be immediately intubated. We, as parents, experienced the worst moments. Even though so much time has passed, fear stays with us every day… 

In those moments, we wanted to hear at least one piece of good news. We stood beside our little son’s incubator begging for him to survive. Our hearts broke apart. A newborn baby was doomed for suffering! We just became parents, but we couldn’t protect him against pain. We had no idea what would happen next. We were scared every day…  

When Ignaś was two days old, an ultrasound showed something we had been most afraid of. Intraventricular hemorrhage, which left an irreversible mark — cerebral palsy. We suddenly realized that there are years of struggle for a better tomorrow ahead of us. Our lives were turned upside down. We didn’t know what to do. No one prepared us for this…

Our son spent in the hospital 48 days. We fought for his life every day. He had an episode of apnea and bronchopulmonary dysplasia. It is not how we imagined our reality. We felt helpless, powerless, and hopeless, but we did our best to provide our baby with everything he needed. To ease his suffering and make his life as normal as possible. 

He has been rehabilitated since he was only a couple of months old. Every day he makes enormous progress, but his development is delayed in terms of motor skills and mental abilities. He hasn’t made his first step yet, but we believe he will soon! It is our goal. 

However, to achieve his developmental milestones, Ignacy requires further treatment. Physical therapy and medical equipment are necessary means to enable it. We are running out of funds, though. Ignaś is growing up and becoming stronger, and our expenses are getting higher…
