Fundraiser description
My name is Juliusz Czepiżak. I was born with a left femur three cm shorter than my right femur.
At the age of five an attempt was made to lengthen it, but the operation was unsuccessful and additionally it caused dislocation of the left hip joint, which resulted in permanent disability. Three times in different centres (Krakow, Zakopane and Warsaw) I underwent operations to reposition this joint, unfortunately without any positive results.
Without a functioning joint it is impossible to effectively lengthen a limb, which is why I currently have a shorter left leg by about 10 cm and I move in a wheelchair and on crutches for shorter distances. I spent all my teenage years in a wheelchair.
Currently, I have been approved for surgery to stabilize the left hip combined with lengthening of the left limb and there might be a chance that the difference between my two legs will be reduced to about two cm and the hip joint will perform its function, so I will finally be able to walk unaided.
Unfortunately, this procedure in the American Paley European Institute in Warsaw is very expensive and is not reimbursed by the National Health Fund. In addition, the cost of post-operative rehabilitation is beyond the means of my family.
Finally, I have a chance to move without limitations, a chance for a normal life, so I am asking you for help and for a donation to my account.
Thank you in advance for your support!
Yours faithfully
Juliusz Czepiżak
