It took seconds for tragedy to happen…Despite a broken spine, Kamil doesn’t give up ❗️ Please help him regain his health ❗️

In just one moment, my brother Karol’s life fell apart. Not just his life, though. Our reality, thoughts, and hearts changed forever. 

On August 15, our lives stopped. On a sunny afternoon at the lakeside, Kamil was having a great time with friends, sharing a laugh and relaxing, as usual. One jump into the water changed his life forever… Kamil hit his head against the bottom of the lake…

He received a dramatic diagnosis: C5 and C6 fractures. He required surgery to remove the broken parts of the vertebrae and implement a prosthesis and metal stabilizers. Since the accident, Kamil has been suffering from upper and lower limb paralysis. A moment of summer joy turned into a tragedy for life.

I saw the light in his eyes disappear. Now I’m watching him struggle with pain, helplessness, and himself. Our mom tries to stay strong, although she’s on the verge of collapse, mentally and physically. So am I. I cannot sleep at night, wondering what will happen next. Will Kamil find the strength to fight for his recovery? Will our mom be able to carry this burden? Will I be able to support them both when I’m a wreck myself?

As a sister, I promised to do my best to help my brother, though. And although I can’t turn back time and change the tragic turn of events, I can fight for his second chance. Kamil has woken up from the coma and has been transferred to the rehabilitation unit, where he’s been fighting for recovery, but most of all, to find the meaning and purpose of life, and motivation to keep going.

What’s most important is that Kamil wants to recover, despite pain and limitations, and a long and difficult path ahead of him. He decided not to surrender. Rehabilitation is the most crucial stage of returning to his old self. Since the accident, he’s accomplished so much already! Despite the initial lack of sensation from the neck down, he now starts to feel his trunk muscles, which gives us motivation and hope to fight for more, like regaining a feeling from the waist down!

Every day, we fight for Kamil’s independence. Our mom is getting older, and every year, she has less and less strength to carry, nurture, and take care of my brother. This is why we must do everything to help Kamil regain at least partial independence.  

Kamil is determined to fight. Most people would be devastated after the kind of accident he had, but not him. He’s such an inspiration to all of us! My brother not only gives 100% effort during physical therapy, but also makes his story public to warn other young people about how dangerous the water jumps can be.

This is why… please help me keep the promise I made to my brother. Your every kind gesture, donation, good word, and share of the fundraiser means the world to me. Thanks to you, Kamil has a chance to fight for recovery. For the sake of himself and his family, especially for our mom.

Perfect families don’t exist. Everyone has a different personality and opinion. However, when tragedy happens, all must come together and be there for one another. This is the moment when Kamil needs us the most. All of us. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support. I believe that together we can make his battle meaningful so that he can have his old life back.
