Fundraiser description

A young, happy marriage had their first baby, a son, who was perfectly healthy.

One day he fainted. Then, he had seizures. The doctors diagnosed him with epilepsy. It was horrible news, but the disease seemed manageable, and people who suffer from it can even go to college and graduate. However, when he was 14 months old, he suffered from his first seizures and hypoxia. The doctors suspected that Klaudiusz might have developed brain atrophy. They recommended that we say goodbye to him. Although they were wrong, we had been having the worst time of our lives while awaiting the test results.

We searched for specialists and alternative treatments. Our son’s development was already delayed back then. He could not speak, but he was able to walk. He attended hippotherapy and a kindergarten for children with disabilities.

After another epileptic episode, he started to experience balance disorders. He kept fighting, though, and he held our hands when going out.

We decided to have another baby. She was born when Klaudiusz was 9, so we could enjoy everyday life. Klaudiusz became more responsive to the environment, especially around his sister, whom he cherishes.

Within the last couple of years, our family enlarged by another three children, two boys, and one girl. When our youngest daughter was born, our son Jacob started kindergarten. A couple of months later, he caught the flu. He also developed an urge to drink a lot of water in the evening, which was an early sign of diabetes. We were shocked! We could not believe that another child of ours was sick, too. It has been almost six years since the diagnosis. Despite many tests, including genetic ones, the doctors could not find the reason for their diseases.

Since then Klaudiusz has already been in the hospital a couple of times due to acute seizures. He underwent corpus callosotomy, otherwise known as brain-splitting surgery to stop the seizures. He was so brave! Even though most of the doctors did not give him a chance. Currently, he is bedridden and requires intense physical therapy. His disease causes abnormal muscle tension and spine deformation.

Jacob’s diabetes is also hard to control. It is a “sneaky” autoimmune disease that keeps us on our toes, even at night. We need to be alert 24/7, which harms our health. Until recently, Jacob was tutored at home, but since he loves to socialize, we transferred him to school, and he loves it! However, now he requires an insulin pump more than ever. It will let us sleep at night by controlling our son’s blood sugar. Imbalanced glucose level causes concentration difficulty, mood swings, and health issues. Besides, classes and times of meals at school cannot be individually adjusted to Jacob’s needs. Unfortunately, the insulin pump costs ca. 24,000 Polish zlotys! We were hoping to purchase it earlier. However, we cannot afford it due to other disease-related expenses.
