Fundraiser description
Konrad is a boy with a big heart. Always obliging, willing to help. He had an endless list of dreams and plans. One moment has changed everything... Our son fell into coma. He does not speak. He does not respond to our voices. He does not move. We do not know what really happened!
Konrad is the most sensitive person we have ever known. He has a special gift when it comes to relations with people, especially children. He could find common grounds with them, play and fool around for hours. He loved children and they loved him. However, his everyday life was not easy. He has been struggling with diabetes type 1 for years. He had to monitor his blood sugar level to maintain it in a proper range. He also had to inject himself with insulin several times a day. But he did not complain. He bravely coped with the disease that he has to live with.
Then, something happened and we are not able to describe it without tears. On 28 February 2025, I, Konrad’s mum, found him lying lifelessly in his room. He was unconscious, had seizures and was not able to breathe well enough. We do not know how long he was lying there alone. I am not able to describe my fright. I thought my son was dying right in front of my eyes! He experienced a serious brain injury due to hypoxia. Konrad's life was in danger. This situation took everything away from him – mobility and consciousness. Since then, he is not responsive. Our beloved son is in coma and we are with him every day.
We do not know what caused his coma. Perhaps diabetes. Our son is breathing through a tube and is fed through a PEG tube. He does not respond to any stimuli – touch or words. We are not sure if he can hear us... He is staying at a hospice that is far away from our home. We are trying to be with him as often as possible. We are very worried when it comes to his condition as there is no improvement and pressure sores started appearing. Every day, we ask ourselves: “Will he ever wake up?”. But we are still fighting and we do not intend to give up!
Fortunately, we are surrounded by good people who are willing to help. Konrad is visited by physiotherapists, therapists and behaviourists. We have learned so much from them – we know how to work with our son, how to stimulate his senses and which stimuli is important. We are doing everything in our power to bring his mobility back. But this fight is expensive. And it costs
more than we can afford. Rehabilitation stays, neurorehabilitation, exercises and specialist equipment – it exceeds our financial capabilities.
For this reason, full of pain, fear and uncertainty, we are asking for your help. Each zloty, each share of this fundraiser – is a brick that helps us build a chance for Konrad to come back. Thank you in advance for positive thoughts and remembering about Konrad, a good person, who would help everyone in difficult situation if he could.
