Fundraiser description
I distinctly remember the day of my labor. I was scared, excited, and unbelievably happy that we would soon hold our baby. Leo was born in the 36th week of pregnancy. Everything seemed fine, although I had been constantly scared during pregnancy due to the problems with my liver and duodenum. However, Leo was born a healthy baby.
Unfortunately, a month later, he developed unexpected symptoms!
Leo is a premature baby. He was born one month earlier.
We were so happy, though! He was safe and sound. Unfortunately, almost 3 months later, we discovered a lump behind his ear—it seemed like it had grown overnight. We thought it was nothing serious since babies usually develop all kinds of food and skin allergies. However, the next day, we took our son to the pediatrician. It turned out that the little lump was just the beginning of our concerns.
The doctor quickly referred us to a surgeon, who, in turn, sent us to an ENT specialist, and the ultrasound scan, which was set for two weeks. However, I felt anxious, so we chose a quicker, paid ultrasound.
It was my birthday (first birthday with my newborn son), and the first anniversary of our engagement. We were supposed to celebrate it with our family. That did not happen, though.
The radiologist told us to see a surgeon immediately! She said that a biopsy was urgently required!
We finally managed to get an appointment. After the examination, the doctor told us something I will never forget. He suspected a malignant tumor!
Waiting for the diagnosis was stressful and painful. After 20 days of undergoing tests, our baby boy could finally go back home.
A long-awaited biopsy result was revealed. It turned out that our son had FIBROMATOSIS, a benign tumor. But still! We hoped it was just a bad dream until the last moment. According to the doctors, the removal of the tumor is necessary, but we need to wait a little longer since the tumor is vascular. Surgery would be too risky.
Although we are relieved that in the histopathologist’s opinion, the lesion on Leo’s skin is non-cancerous, we still feel that there might have been a mistake… That is why we are waiting for the confirmation of the diagnosis.
Another sad news is that Leo has other health issues, as well.
According to the physical therapists, his development is inadequate for his age. Leo has infantile axial hypotonia.
He also cannot maintain eye contact. He requires urgent physical therapy and neurodevelopmental stimulation. As if Leo’s tiny body didn’t suffer enough…
We want to provide our baby boy with everything he needs. We wish he could finally overcome the disease and develop like other children…
Thank you in advance for every donation! We know that the struggle with the tumor has just begun, and no one can predict the future… It is just the beginning of our journey, and we cannot see the end of it yet.
We are so scared. Please, stay with us…
