Fundraiser description

When I go out for a walk with my sons, almost everyone watches us. No wonder, four almost identical boys use every opportunity to play around. They cannot see the world beyond themselves. If they run somewhere, they are always doing it together. Unfortunately, one of them, Leon, is always far behind. Due to perinatal complications, he develops worse than his brothers. The biggest chance to regain lost ability is a very complicated and expensive surgery in the USA ...

Leon Frej

We are a large family. In addition to boys, we have 2 teenage daughters. Our life is very different from that of a traditional family. We do not know what peace and quite is. The four boys are two pairs of twins, 20 months apart. The older ones are 5 years old and younger ones are 3.5 years old. They all have been born prematurely, and they all need early child development support. Every hour spent with this gang is like crazy town. One does not have a single moment for oneself at all ... In the future, if there is a need, they will surely go through fire for each other. Today, however, I just want them to move forward and develop. Leon struggles the most.

Contractures and severe pains paralyze even his slightest movement. The scientific name of this phenomenon is spasticity which is the result of Cerebral Palsy. Leon is acutely aware that something is not okay with him, especially when he has three very busy brothers around him throughout the day.

Everyday, Leon requires leg braces to position his feet properly. He can only walk a short distance on his own. The stairs are the biggest challenge for my son. Without clinging to the railing, he is unable to go up even a single step. The increased muscle tone from the spasms causes such severe pain that we need a special needs stroller to get around. Leon sometimes disguises himself in a Spider-man costume to gain additional powers and feel special. My heart breaks in pieces, so we must act.

Leon's suffering may be relieved by having surgery in the United States. The procedure is called selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR). It involves cutting the spinal cord, allowing to reduce the tension on the muscles. As a result, Leon would be able to move more freely, and each step would no longer be associated with pain. Day-to-day life and his level of comfort would be substantially improved. For such a complicated procedure you need the best doctors in the world, and such are found in the USA...

Dr. Park from Missouri, who qualified Leon for surgery, has ultra modern equipment, and has developed a unique method of cutting nerve fibers, opening only one vertebra. In Poland, doctors open up to five vertebrae, which increases the risk of complications and they do not have such a rich 25-year experience. That is why we decided to choose the United States and we have to go there with the whole family, because we have no one to leave the boys with... I would not go on such a backbreaking journey if I found a better solution for my son. As a mother, I must give him the best opportunity of full and successful life. Unfortunately, this is associated with huge costs, which we cannot afford, so we respectfully ask for your support.

We want to fly to the USA in the middle of next year. In addition, our son will need intensive rehabilitation before and after the surgery. Without it, this whole undertaking will lose its meaning. Please, be with us on this journey for Leon's health and wellness. We need you very much...
