Dear Friends! We are on the mission to help save the new-born son of our beloved friends Michal and Ana. Although they might be strangers to you for us they are the kindest, compassionate and sweetest friends you could possibly imagine. They recently became parents of this lovely baby boy, Antoni, unfortunately, he had been born with a rare, life-threating heart condition. Our hearts break that they have to go through such a terror at the time, that should be the happiest time for them. Please read Antoni's story below. Every penny and every ~share~ counts!
One month together taught us more than we've learned throughout our whole life. Antoni's heart is still beating although the polish medical team, unfortunately, is helpless… The hope for us could be a treatment in Rome. We won't give up. This is the ultimate fight, matter of life and death. If anything is sure, that is that we won't get another chance!
All our plans, hopes, and full of excitement expectations got crushed with the terrifying diagnosis that we've got a day after he was born. His latest test results were rising some concerns, but no one was suspecting that we will get such devastating news.
A sudden drop in heart rate caused emergency delivery. Antoni had to be born as soon as possible so the doctors could help him and give him a chance for surviving. After delivery, our baby went straight to NICU, where he kept on fighting for his life. Moments like this can never be erased from the parent's memory. Wait filled with tension… Any update from the doctors – priceless... Every time someone from the medical team was approaching us, we were paralyzed with fear, we knew they could be a carrier of the bad, most terrifying news.
After 4 days spent in NICU and 10 days on cardiology, we found out that our baby boy suffers from pulmonary atresia with a ventricular septal defect and MAPCA's defect and that our doctors are completely helpless in the fight against such a condition.
Not so long ago we got back home from the hospital. It was a bitter-sweet experience. The mix of happiness and excitement with overwhelming fear. We dream that one day we will be able to forget about this horrible feeling of fear. But how could we do so? We look at our baby and we know that his heart could stop working at any moment. If we won't react on time… If the help won't come on time… He could die. This is the worst scenario and thought of it, as any loving parents we try to push away every day.
That is a great challenge for us, but we have no choice. We had to find a cardio-surgeon that will save this beloved little heart. We have contacted two clinics. One in Rome and the other one in Munster. Their team is the most qualified in that sort of heart defect. In Poland, no doctors are willing to perform surgery for Antoni. We were told that this defect is too complicated to operate, and Antoni is too little to be treated. We have no choice but to trust that our son's life can be saved by experts from one of these two clinics. Both saved thousands of little lives already. We know already that there is a huge obstacle ahead of us. The cost of the surgery could reach 250.000PLN (50.000 GBP). If we will get a slot for the surgery, we will need to pay all of the expenses upfronts. We don't have that money, and it is unthinkable for us to find a different way to come up with this kind of money. Please, help us to save our son. We fear that if we will wait too long it will be too late.
For us, his safety would be a dream come true. Our one and only Christmas wish is his health. Please join his guardian angels and help us save the life that had just begin. Your support is our only hope, and Antoni's only chance. We hope to live without the constant fear that his weak breath could suddenly stop, to live far away from hospital halls, surgeries and live supporting equipment.
Antoni getting bigger, and hopefully, he will get big and strong enough to be ready for this ultimate battle – the battle for his life. What's most difficult for us is that part of getting him the best possible care, we cannot do anything. We must trust the doctors. We hope that with your support we will be given the fighting chance. The stake is high and it's our baby's life.
Antoni has no clue what's ahead of him. As a new-born, he just looks around trying to get to know his surroundings. Right now, he is the happiest in his mum's arms. Unfortunately, we cannot enjoy this blissful time and It's very scary. At any moment we might get a slot for the surgery. We pray for this miracle to happen and with your help, with doctors' help, we will be able to save our baby.
