Let's save Łucja's life!

At the ending of January, we received the news that we were afraid of… The medical team from Pittsburgh, after getting acquainted with the most recent results, decided to speed up the date of the surgery. 

We have time until June!

Unfortunately, a few days ago, our little daughter got COVID… For her, any infection is very dangerous and might lead to a deterioration in the condition of the hearth. Lucja had a high temperature, looked sad, and did not want to eat. Fortunately, she is slowly recovering from the infection, she starts smiling and playing again. At the moment, we do not yet know whether the virus has left any significant traces.

We know one thing for sure – Lucja’s heart saturation dropped, and her heart seems to slow down. We will find out about her condition during the next check-ups. We are trembling with fear waiting for the results.

I have no idea how we will are going to manage to get such a huge amount of money for the operation. It is very hard, but we are trying our best!

Her deadly heart defect is like a death sentence! To have a Chance at life, little Łucja needs surgery in the United States! We have started a collection of funds – please share, save Łucja!

Łucja is our first, long-awaited child. Prenatal tests performed during pregnancy did not reveal any irregularities. We were sure that our daughter would be completely healthy! A vision of what we are now struggling with did not even cross our minds – meeting eye to eye with a death sentence hanging over our beloved child…

Although we had many dreams and visions of the happy life we would have with Łucja, fate decided otherwise… The day of birth was at the same time the most beautiful and the most scary moment of our lives. Łucja was born on March 2, 2022 and was given only 6 points on the 10-point Apgar scale. She was very small and quiet, as if she knew that suffering awaits her in this world, life in fear for each day, each heartbeat…

After birth, instead of landing in the arms of her impatiently waiting mum, as newborns do, she was taken to an incubator. Doctors were concerned by the sound emanating from her little chest. The diagnosis shocked us… Ebstein anomaly, a congenital heart defect affecting less than 1% of children [around 1 in 200000 births (0.0005%!)]! Its etiology has not yet been discovered and it manifests differently from child to child. In Łucja’s case, the manifestation is extreme …

Since we left the hospital, our everyday life has consisted in keeping constant vigil over Łucja, monitoring her heart, checking saturation, and administering medicines. In constant fear for her life… An activity as trivial as feeding is a challenge for our daughter – when she is drinking milk, Łucja’s heart beats faster and she begins to tire and sweat. She is not developing as her peers do, does not sit or crawl, as any activity is a huge effort for her.

The only salvation and chance for our daughter is a surgical procedure, which is performed on such a small child only in the United States. The operation may give Łucja a long and happy life!

After preliminary consultations with the clinic in Pittsburg, we know that doctors will attempt to operate on Łucja, but due to her health problems, which are not only cardiovascular, but also neurological, it would be best if the operation took place when she is 2 years old.

There is one requirement – her condition cannot deteriorate before then. Unfortunately, nobody knows what course her defect will take, whether saturation will not decrease, and the heart will start to fail. This is why we cannot wait and must start collecting funds today, to be ready to fly to the USA at a moment’s notice! Then the countdown will start, a brutal game of life and death…

The cost of the operation is huge, much greater than our financial means, plus there are the costs of travel and accommodation. The total cost is about 2 million Polish złotych (460 US dollars)…

For years we have been supporters of Persons assisted by the Siepomaga.pl service. We have never imagined, however, that a day would come when we would be those who need help, those on the other side…

Łucja is our little spark who despite all the adversities wakes up every day with a captivating smile on her face, as if she wanted to tell us: “Don’t worry, I’m here, everything’s gonna be ok, and I’ll live!”

We are asking all of you – please help us save our beloved daughter. She is our whole world…
