I am holding her hand in silence until she says „I am back".❗️Help me fight for Lucyna❗️

One day, we were living as usual. Lucyna packed her bag and checked if she has everything she needs. While holding her hand I told her to take care of herself during this travel. And now I am standing by her bed at the ward in a long-term care centre. I am holding her hand, wondering, if she can hear me and this time I am the one who promises to take care of her. To save her.

She was healthy and full of energy. Everything changed in an instant. One phone call was enough – Lucyna was probably getting ready for work when she suffered a haemorrhage. She fell down. She was lying on the floor all night until her sister found her and called an ambulance.

We waited for a long time for the diagnosis. The doctors put my wife in an induced coma and she could not be woken up. The CT scan showed  a massive haemorrhage. That is why Lucyna is a long-term care centre in a Minimally Conscious State.

We have been functioning like this since August. We have been looking for help everywhere – in Przemyśl, then in Rzeszów in the neurology centre. It was difficult because my wife’s condition is not clear and she did not qualify for admission in some facilities. Her current stay in a long-term facility will not be permanent. We need to find a rehabilitation centre.

She is not on a ventilator but her lungs are damaged. She is in a Minimally Conscious State – we can see that she reacts, sometimes moves her eyes or emotions are visible on her face but it is not the conscious contact that we are aiming for. But it is also not a vegetative state. She suffered a hypoxia but there is a real chance that she will be back...At least partially.

Unfortunately, we have our backs against the wall. Because when my wife is fighting with all her power to regain control of her body, I am trying to control our life and to provide her with treatment and rehabilitation – strict qualification criteria, waiting time, waiting lists... Hours, days and weeks of waiting and time is killing us, slowly taking Lucyna’s chances to consciously look at the people closest to her heart. At me.

Any moment without rehabilitation is a wasted moment when it comes to recovery. We are at the point when together with my whole family, we need to ask for support. If we raise funds to pay for a private rehabilitation centre, Lucyna will finally receive the help she needs. But the cost is enormous – it can even amount to several thousand zlotys a month.

That is why I am asking for help. Help me fight for me wife. For the person I was not aware I could love so much. For a chance to hold her hand and say her: “You are back, My Love”. Money was never the most important thing for us, but now, it can save my wife.
