Fundraiser description

I will tell you a story about a girl… A girl who is petite and small but very strong, and brave as a soldier. A girl who has mental strength and is in high spirits even when facing the worst enemy – cancer.

This is a story about our daughter Maja.

The beginning of the fight
In July 2022, we heard the diagnosis that changed everything: acute myeloid leukaemia FLT3+. It sounded like life sentence. The world stopped and our lives were turned upside down. Maja underwent a debilitating treatment – six months of chemotherapy that ended with a bone marrow transplantation in Crakow in January 2023.

Her younger brother Ignacy was the donor. Our little hero.
Maja coped with everything with an extraordinary bravery and smile on her face. The disease subsided.

After 6 months at hospital, we finally went home. Maja was back to school, to her friends. We started returning to our peaceful life. Her follow-ups were less often and blood test results were getting better – we started living a regular life again.

Unfortunately, just before Christmas, on 23 December 2024, after a follow-up blood work, we received concerning news.
Low level of platelets. Bone marrow biopsy.
Leukaemia was back. Tricky and even more aggressive than the first time.

However, we were able to spend Christmas at home, together, smiling as if nothing bad was waiting to happen.

On 26 December, we went back to the oncology ward. Maja was qualified for treatment with standard chemotherapy, supported with a new targeted medicine.
It is a medicine used to treat relapsing, refractory leukaemia with FLT3+ mutation. It recognises the diseased cells and limits their development. It gives a chance. A huge one. But it is not reimbursed for children in Poland.

The second transplantation – March 2025
The previous fundraiser allowed us to buy one package of the medicine. Maja underwent two cycles of strenuous chemotherapy supported with Xospata. She was in remission.

On 14 March 2025 Maja underwent the second bone marrow transplantation.
Her brother Ignacy was the donor for the second time.
The transplant was accepted but there were complications – gastroenteritis, strong pain relieved with opioids and graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) on skin. Fortunately, steroids were effective and her condition improved.

On 11 April 2025 – after almost for months of hospitalisation – Maja went home.

Another obstacle – May 2025
Unfortunately, after only three weeks cytomegalovirus reactivated. Maja was admitted to hospital where she was receiving an intravenous drug for three weeks. The situation was under control and we went home again. Currently, we have to go to Cracow for a follow-up every week.

Due to the high risk of relapse, it was decided that Maja should be on the medicine for the next year.

What is next?
Maja takes the medicine that we were able to buy with your help.
But we need four more packages to finish the therapy.
One package costs almost 70 000 PLN. In total – more than 280 000 PLN.
We cannot afford it.

For this reason we are asking – please help Maja finish this fight. We do not want her smile to disappear.
We want the disease to be gone forever. Let’s make the medicine, which gives her a chance, available throughout the whole therapy.

Maja has been fighting so many times. She underwent two cycles of chemotherapy, two transplantations, GvHD, pain and loneliness in hospital. But despite all that she has never given up.

Let’s help her win the last chapter of this fight.

From the bottom of our hearts we thank you for your support – each zloty, share, kind word, prayer and presence.
