A dozen surgeries in only 11 years of life. Fear, pain, suffering and independence, to which we seemed to be constantly approaching. The disease is playing a dramatic game with us, and victory, or the life of Maja, depends now on others!

Until the end we were not sure what the things would be like. After 11 years of fighting and collecting money, we hoped that we are about to undergo a new stage. It was several years of hard work, suffering and sacrifice. All in the name of the fight against this terrible disease we learned about at the end of pregnancy: Apert syndrome - that name from the very beginning caused the shivers of horror. Despite the passage of time nothing has changed, we still fear it the same way.

When we gained the amount necessary for the surgery, we hoped that our goal were within reach. PLN 1,5 million ($ 350 000) donated by people with good hearts. On 19th March, we started the planned treatment, we escorted Maja to the operating room with our hearts in our mouths, but also with the conviction that it would be a breakthrough. Maja was to undergo monobloc advancement surgery that moves the bones of the forehead and middle of the face forward preventing her from blindness and ensuring proper oxygenation of the brain. The procedure took 8 hours. It is difficult to describe the emotions that accompanied us... A mixture of fear, uncertainty and the recurring question... what next?

Unfortunately, our hopes have been dashed. After the surgery, the condition deteriorated dramatically. Instead of improvement, we watched the situation become more serious by the hour. An extended stay in the ICU, additional treatments, medicines, specialist care - all that was not foreseen in the cost estimated. On the 16th April, a few days ago, we received shocking information which completely devastated us - to ensure Maja's further struggle for health and life we have to pay additional PLN 400 000 / $90 000! The deadline for payment is not negotiable, the transfer of money must be made by 20th May. If we want to continue fighting for our daughter, we must move heaven and earth. Unfortunately, we can do nothing by ourselves. Because of the coronavirus, we are locked up with Maja in isolation. Any germs and bacteria can be deadly to her. Our hands are tied, and time is running out terribly fast...

The complications cast the success of the entire process into doubt. Everything is in question, and there is only one thing we can do now: beg for help. Please, help us save our daughter's life. She has gone through so much in her life, she has tried with all her strength to meet every challenge. Her commitment and suffering cannot be in vain. Maja should have a chance for happy years to enjoy her life. Please help us keep her and our hopes alive as our little daughter is lying on a hospital bed believing that everything will be all right in the end.
