Fundraiser description
It is incredible how, in a single moment, a life that used to be happy and well-ordered can turn into a life-and-death struggle. When you find out you are terminally ill, you have no idea what the coming days will look like. You do not know how much time you have left, if any... In my case it started inconspicuously with issues with balance and ended up with brain tumour diagnosis.
My name is Marta and I am a mother of two wonderful children. I work with the youth. I am a PE teacher with 25 years of experience. I like my job and my pupils.
At the end of the year, I noticed that maintaining my balance was harder than usual. Additionally, the right side of my body was often numb. I had not experienced these issues before, particularly because sport is an important part of my life.
I started looking for the cause. I did not expect it to be so cruel. Doctors diagnosed me with brain tumour – glioblastoma multiforme, stage 4, the worst possible.
It sounds like a death sentence, but I have decided to fight this disease – for my family, for the loved ones who support me, and for my students, whom I long to return to.

At the end of January I underwent the first serious brain tumour removal surgery. There is a difficult, long and expensive treatment ahead of me but I still believe I can win that fight.
Soon, I am going to start chemo- and radiotherapy. However, I must honestly admit that glioblastoma is a very insidious and aggressive cancer. And although it is cruel to say, systemic treatment will not save my life. It is the first step but I have to take the next ones to combat this disease successfully. I have to be ready for the next attacks.
And despite the fact that it was not easy, I decided to start a fundraiser now. I would like to use the funds for supplementary treatment which can increase my chance for remission.
I am considering Nanotherm therapy which uses nanoparticles and magnetic field to warm and destroy cancerous cells. The Optune device increases my chances as it generates electric fields on the scalp and interrupts the division of cancerous cells. I would also like to be able to undergo treatment abroad, if necessary.
It is just the beginning of this fight but I already know that treatment is going to devour large amounts of money – hundreds of thousands of zlotys. Until recently I had no ideathat people with the same diagnosis are in such a difficult situation. I did not realize the high cost of the therapies which, alongside standard care in Poland, provide the most hopeful and effective outcomes. After so many bad news one can break down but I knew I had to fight.
That is why, with all my heart, I am asking you to financially support my treatment and fight for life. I know that I cannot do it alone. Your help is my only hope of winning this battle and returning to health.
