Fundraiser description
Hello, my name is Martyna. I'm only 18, but while my peers are spending their time at school, I must fight for my life. Until 2020, I lived a carefree life. I attended school, played violin and piano, and sang in the choir. I did not expect that my life would change so much. I had dreams of becoming a doctor and helping others.
Unfortunately, it turned out that fate had a different plan for me.
At the age of 12, scoliosis appeared. I started rehabilitation - everything was going in the right direction until 2020 when my hands became weak. I couldn't lift them above my head. We thought it was due to scoliosis. Unfortunately, despite rehabilitation, there was no improvement. I had to give up the violin, which was my whole world.

I developed problems with walking long distances. My legs were getting weaker and weaker. Doctors decided to perform an EMG test, which showed primary muscle damage - probably due to a genetic muscle disease. My condition was getting worse. The muscles in my spine and legs were weakening. As a result, I could not stand, walk, or maintain an upright position. My only chance to move around was in a wheelchair.
This year, I underwent muscle MRI and biopsy. Unfortunately, the MRI results showed generalized muscle atrophy. The changes the biopsy showed are characteristic of genetic muscle diseases, in particular, muscular dystrophy. It was, by far, the worst news.
I remember the day when the doctor came with all the results and said that she was very sorry, but all she could recommend was rehabilitation, which would only prolong my life. My disease is terminal. Muscles die every day. It leads to severe disability and respiratory failure, and the only solution for me is constant rehabilitation.

I currently use a wheelchair every day. I can't sit for too long. I also have problems with swallowing, so the doctors decided I'd be fed through a PEG tube inserted in my belly. I suffer from sleep apnea and heart rhythm disorders, which are being diagnosed. Nevertheless, thanks to constant rehabilitation and specialized care, we can slow down the progress of the disease.
Unfortunately, the monthly cost of rehabilitation in a specialized facility is as much as 25,000 zlotys. However, it is my last chance for a better and longer life.
I'm just starting to live, and I don't want to die! I want to experience the beauty of the world. Even though it is difficult, I've never stopped believing I can win a race against time. I don't give up and fight for my health every day. My dream is to become a psychologist and help others in crisis. I want every person in need to be able to receive help. Unfortunately, despite my strength and great will to fight, I need help. That is why I am asking you - good-hearted people - to help me raise money for a one-year stay in a specialized rehabilitation center.
Thank you in advance,
Martyna
