Matthew is fighting for his life! Help!
Matthew's treatment has been changed and has been prescribed new medications. In 6 months, we will return to Boston for heart surgery!
Matthew underwent tests at the Children's Hospital and Brigham Hospital at the turn of September and October. A recent PET scan of the heart showed that there is still a possibility to save the left ventricle and for Matthew to live without fear and anxiety.
Matthew's fight for life has been a long one. The last year has been extremely difficult. We were accompanied by constant fear, uncertainty, and sometimes helplessness... But hope always smoldered.
Now Matthew's situation is dramatic. He is afraid and loses his willingness and strength to continue his fight. My heart is breaking, but I'm doing everything to make sure he doesn't give up.
I believe that with your help, Matthew will undergo surgery and will be able to live a normal life without pain and fear of another day. I am SIMPLY asking for your help!
Thank you for any support!
Ela, mom
It is impossible to tell Matthew's story without including his parents, who have been fighting for him every day from the first minutes of his life. Within the span of seventeen years, he has undergone more than 20 heart surgeries. He has been treated by the most eminent surgeons in Poland and Europe. It's time for America now. Our last - and THE ONLY CHANCE for real help for Matthew.
Matthew's mother: "Over the past year, Matthew's heart capacity has dropped by another 14%. If we were to compare his heart condition to a healthy heart using a percentage - his is 75% worse." After a recent massive heart attack, Matthew barely survived. Heart transplant is out of the question.
The preparation itself is extremely risky, not to mention possible rejection, tumor formation, and constant stress and fear. It is the opinion of both Polish and foreign cardiac surgeons. We kept being rejected, and helplessness of the doctors only intensified our pain. We could not give up, and our efforts finally paid off. On May 18, we received a positive response from specialists in Boston. There was finally hope, a plan, a chance to live without fear.
A trip to the United States is a trip to receive new life.
Matthew: "I would like to live a normal life, stop stressing out that I might faint, that something will happen to me, that I can't do something or don't have the strength. To get my mind off it, I cook. I have to cut myself off from these thoughts, from this fear, at least for a while. Does it bring relief? Rather not. But at least I can make myself and my loved ones happy and relaxed. I know that this operation is my only and last chance. Everything depends on it."
All these events of the previous years and the last months have shown how fragile life is and how weak Mati's heart is. Looking further, you will see how tremendous his strength and willingness to face the disease are. What can you do? Donate even a few zlotys, share the fundraiser, tell your friends, write a comment that will give Matthew a "boost" or bring a smile on his face, get involved, and contribute to another win in the race for life!
