Our son is fighting for his life! We just finished treating lymphoma when it turned out that the cancer had come back! Now, however, the chemistry does not work ... Michał's only hope is the CAR-T therapy that is not reimbursed in his case. Its cost is enormous ... We must raise funds as soon as possible to buy our son's life! We wholeheartedly ask for help. For rescue ...
In January this year, our nightmare began, which no one had expected ... A few days earlier, Michał was playing a handball tournament. Nothing foreshadowed the tragedy!
And then we came across the Emergency Room ...
Michał's stomach ached, he had diarrhea, he was dehydrated and weak. We thought it was some sort of acute gut and wanted electrolytes to be given to him. After the initial examinations were performed, the diagnosis was made - acute appendicitis. We were taken by ambulance to the provincial hospital in Kielce, Poland.
We were full of apprehension because it was a serious disease. It turned out to be nothing compared to the information we heard a moment later ... This is not an appendix, there are tumors! Huge! It's Burkitt's lymphoma with liver and chest metastases! In an instant, everything collapsed ... Our beloved, the only child has cancer!
Treatment started right away. Michał had an implanted port through which very strong chemicals flowed. As much as 2 liters of fluid was drawn from his abdomen and collected ... The son endured the treatment very hard. The chemistry burnt the mucous membranes, he couldn't eat ... Those were tragic moments, it's hard to describe them ... But slowly, step by step we went through the next stages of treatment. The main thing is that the tumors are gone!
In May we got the awaited news - it's clean, no cancer cells in the body! On the discharge word the dream word - remission. It was possible to return to such a brutally interrupted life, to everyday life, for which we missed so much, even though it was so normal.
The joy of the victory lasted two months ... Intestinal problems, pain in the hip bones, fever. Until the last minute, we were hoping it was a port-borne infection. The CT scan left no illusions - there is a tumor, this time on the intestine!
And again our 13-year-old was torn from his dreams and plans. From your life ... We are in the hospital, everything has started all over again. But it's much harder now! It turned out that the tumor did not respond to the chemotherapy as it should. It has decreased but is not going away!
Doctors said that CAR-T Cell therapy will be a hope. It's a good news. The bad news is that in Poland it is reimbursed in children only for leukemia, not for lymphomas. It was a blow, it hurt physically ... Then there were to be clinical trials in Bydgoszcz, for which Michał was happily qualified. And another blow - the research was suspended due to organizational problems! With them the hope for life disappears ...
We are standing against a wall made of unattainable amounts - over PLN 1,800,000 (376000€, £326000) for CAR-T therapy! How much time do we have to collect it? We don't know, but very little for sure… Doctors are fighting to restore the blood parameters and our son's blood parameters, so that he can start treatment. It won't start if we don't pay for it ...
We ask, with all our hearts, for help, for hope! We cannot give up when the life of our only beloved child is at stake! He has to live, it's so unfair ... We fight, every day, going through indescribable hell. We ask for support to get out of it, to save Michał ...
