Monika is a teacher by vocation. She cannot imagine her life without teaching. But what to do when cancer wants to take away not only her passion, but also her health and life?
"The disease came unexpectedly. It started with frequent and inconspicuous headaches, which increased significantly in August. After medical examinations I was urgently referred for tests ... then to hospital, because the MRI showed the presence of a tumor in my head - a malignant tumor of the frontal lobe.
I knew my life would change a lot. I have the willingness to accept and be thankful for everything but this does not mean to be passive. On the contrary, I want to do everything towards full recove ry.
Doctors recommend surgery, followed by chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Each procedure always carries a high risk. This tumor is located in the Broca’s area responsible for speech production. This is not very good news for a teacher and trainer!
Doctors informed me that serious complications may appearafter the surgery - speech defects, e.g. aphasia and problems with movement. So far, I have taught Polish to foreigners. I am also a mindfulness-based stress reduction trainer and I am training to become a therapist working with people affected by trauma. This means that I might never return to those activities that now give meaning and set the course for my life.
My plans, dreams and activities have been put into question. For me, however, it does not mean the end, it means a completely new beginning. No surrender! Now is the time to recover fully!
So I am looking for any treatment options that would allow my body to heal while remaining physically and intellectually fit. This may also mean treatment, e.g. with immunotherapy abroad, as well as any other methods that I am exploring proposed by Polish or foreign medical centers.
Of course, this involves huge expenses, needed yesterday, so I am asking you for help!
The treatment after surgery is a long path involving neurological physiotherapy, neurologopedics and other therapies that will then be necessary, and this will only be the beginning of the path to full recovery. "
