Campaign description

More than 150 000 private houses were destroyed due to russian invasion.
Thousands of Ukrainians on the de-occupied territories have nowhere to return. These families have to evacuate in other regions and countries, ask strangers for temporary stay, or live in terrible conditions: without heating, water supply, and other basic facilities.

By providing families with stable temporary housing on their property right now, we help decrease the level of forced emigration from de-occupied villages, impact the local economy and agriculture, save social connections and regional cultural uniqueness!

The north of Ukraine was attacked by russians with a full-scale invasion, and liberated by Ukrainian Army in April 2022. Those communities are cleared of mines, all russian crimes and damages were documented. People and small businesses returned home. But for those, whose house was destroyed, it’s much more difficult.

NEST is a human-centered temporary housing project by the Humanitarian Center of Serhiy Prytula Charity Foundation. Its mission is to join the prompt and coherent recovery of the de-occupied Ukrainian countryside by providing a prefabricated temporary house for families whose homes were destroyed due to the Russian war in Ukraine. To help the community return to its life as much as possible, we have to help its citizens return home first. Without a stable place to live in, families are unable to rebuild their houses and lives, plant food in their gardens, work and raise their children at home.

NEST aims to alleviate this burden by providing family with a free prefabricated house that is safe, equipped with necessary furniture and home appliances, suitable for year-round living within ~10 years. After family rebuild their house, they can transfer the temporary NEST to another family, who’ll need such help.

We started with Makariv community of Kyiv region, which consists of 49 villages where 565 private houses were completely destroyed. We already have covered the purchase of temporary house for 38 families, giving 138 people a chance to return home!

NEST works with one community at a time to ensure the impact on its recovery and economy. Cooperation with local government provides a verified database of families who have returned or who would like to return to the community, but their house was destroyed during russian invasion. Local government also assists with clearing the ruins or connecting communications if needed.

As Ukraine continues to fight against russian invasion, there’s no possibility yet to cope with the problem of damages in private housing on the state level. By helping charity projects that offer temporary housing solutions, you help our whole state to prepare for providing long-term official solutions after Ukraine’s victory.

We invite you to support NEST and its mission to provide temporary housing for families in need. Your contribution will go directly towards the construction and installation of prefabricated temporary houses, ensuring that families return home and have a safe place to live till rebuilding their family NEST!
