Let's help Piotruś!

Piotruś is only 1 year old and his leg is already several centimeters shorter than the other one. What’s more he didn’t grow a splint bone and without a specialist surgery this deficiency will result in lasting disability.

Now as we know it, we can’t just wait with no action on what will happen next. We can’t live and watch our little one deprived of more and more by the disability. Piotruś is our third child, long-awaited son, who has two olders sisters at home. His date of birth was supposed to be our final happiness moment as we felt we were full. Unfortunately, already during pregnancy our happiness was ruined when during a routine check-up the we got to know about our son’s serious fault with his leg.

Fibular hemimelia – this is what a diagnosis sounded. It is a congenital lack of splint bone and substantial shortening of the leg. Those words made us create a never-ending list of questions about how our son’s life was going to look like and if we’d be able to help him so that he would be a healthy and happy child.
After birth it turned out that Piotruś also suffers from clubfoot which would require hours of intensive rehabilitation which is the only method of healing. Unfortunately, rehabilitation wouldn’t do in the case of others defects of Piotruś. We then promised ourselves that we’d do everything to cure him, even if that would mean travelling across the globe.
Currently the difference in lengths between Piotruś’s legs is three centimeters. When he tries walking, he cannot walk straight, which hugely strains his backbone. If we had done nothing about it, the difference would have been as least ten centimeters.

So we got to know about the Institute in Warsaw where dr Paley from US and other doctors from Poland do surgeries which aim at lengthening the bones. The first surgery for Piotruś would be a reconstruction of the hock, liberation of nerves. The second surgery would be a lengthening of the leg.

The surgeries should take place before Piotruś turns two! This is to stop the defect and enable Piotruś to learn walking as soon as possible.
We’d love to do everything possible for our son to be a fully able child. Yet, the price for it is so big that we ask you to help us!
