Let's save Pawełek's life

Spiral muscular atrophy, SMA – a disease, a monster, the worst that could have happened to us. The nightmare haunting our family for so many years, which has already taken one child from us, still doesn’t want to let go, not even for a moment. The current state of medical knowledge enables us to fight this deadly enemy in a much more effective way than even not so long ago; however, it requires collecting a huge amount of money, counted in millions of zlotys... That’s why we don’t have a choice but to start a fundraiser and to ask you, all the good-hearted people out there, for your help and support! And here is our story:

Soft skin, sweet smell, and these cute little eyes that I lose myself in, day and day again. I could spend all the time in the world cuddling my baby boy Pawełek; but since the day of the diagnosis I’ve been hugging him differently, holding him for dear life, as if trying to keep my son with me forever, against the cruel fate. I am just so terrified of losing him...

Being a mother is my dream come true. When my eldest son was born I just knew I would do everything in my power to ensure that he’s happy and, above all, safe. But the fortune, apparently, had other plans. SMA took Jurek away from us; and together with him, some part of our hearts died, too! He wasn’t even three years old when he lost the battle with that cruel opponent. Some time later our second son, Sasha, was born; and we were overjoyed to find out that he was healthy!

I’d been praying for our nightmare never to come back, so that we wouldn’t have to hear about that dreadful disease ever again. And then Pawełek was born – such a tiny, beautiful, and healthy baby; or at least so we thought at that time... But two weeks after his birth, we once again heard the same three dreaded letters which had ruined our world a few years earlier – SMA! I was instantly overcome with fear, paralysing my whole body. I knew that I wouldn’t survive losing Pawełek, that my heart would fall apart! The life of our children is the most precious thing we have, and we will fight for it with all our might!

I can see how Pawełek is fading with every passing day... How difficult it is for him to keep his little head up, to move his arms and legs... I can see the way he looks into my eyes, searching desperately for help. And I would give anything to be able to save him! But I just can’t do it alone... We keep rehabilitating our baby boy, visiting various medical specialists with him; we’ve dedicated our whole life to fighting SMA – but it’s still not enough.

All of our efforts and hard work delay the progression of the disease only by a little, not giving us any hopes for the future... Even if I sold everything that I have, I still wouldn’t be able to afford the gene therapy for my little boy – the only kind of treatment that gives us some hope. If the cruel fate takes away another child from me, my heart will break into pieces with grief and despair! That’s why I’m begging – please, help us!
