Fundraiser description
When we had learned that we were having twins we were happy. We were impatiently waiting for the day that would finally bring our babies into this world. The girls were born on 30 December 2024. Unfortunately, our happiness did not last long...Pola’s condition worsened when she was eight days old. She was admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit and had to be kept on a ventilator.
She experienced respiratory failure. After numerous diagnostic test, many strains of bacteria were detected. Pola went through sepsis. She was diagnosed with necrotizing enterocolitis, and as a result, she had to undergo surgery to have the necrotic tissue from the ileum and jejunum removed.
Our little baby underwent 3 surgeries in a week. One of them included head as she experienced intracerebral haemorrhage. However, gastrointestinal reconstruction was also necessary. Pola was on a ventilator for about 2 months and we feared for her frail life!
Because Pola is suffering from short bowel syndrome, we were sent to Children's Health Memorial Centre Institute where Broviac catheter was surgically placed in her body. It helps keep her alive. A part of Pola’s small intestine had to be removed. Our daughter spent her first 4 months in hospital.
Additionally, Pola has a ventricular septal defect and cardiovascular conditions. She had serious pneumonia 3 times. The doctors gave her no chance of survival and we were advised to prepare for the worst but our baby proved that she is strong and she is with us and her sister at home now.
Unfortunately Pola’s development is slower when compared to her peers, and she has to be under constant specialist care. She needs rehabilitation and we want to provide it to her as often as possible so she can have a chance for a better tomorrow and to catch up with her sister when it comes to the development.
Apart from expensive rehabilitation, Pola needs medicines and medicinal products. She has disability certificate. This is a great financial burden to our family. So today, we are asking for your help from the bottom of our hearts!
