Even though it is difficult and embarrassing for me, because I am an honourable man, I found myself in a situation where I have to ask for help. After 4 years, I was diagnosed with a recurrence of papillary renal kidney cancer, with metastases to the lungs, liver, bones and the second kidney. My only chance to fight the disease and survive is to receive first-line immunotherapy.

My name is Przemysław Gadaliński. I am 39 years old. I am the father of two daughters aged 7 and 10. I would like to be able to raise them, pass on my values and watch them enter adulthood. Like everyone else, I also have many plans and dreams about my family, my relatives and a job in which I would like to develop and be useful. I have struggled for a long time with many adversities to live my life to the full, which I seem to have achieved. Unfortunately, the whole struggle and all plans were thwarted by the relapse of the cancer. But I will not give up now.

My fight has continued on and off since 2010. It was then, 9 months after the birth of my first daughter, that I heard the diagnosis: cancer. It was a testicular tumour, and was fortunately diagnosed early. Specialists from the Masovian Oncology Hospital in Wieliszewo performed an operation to remove the tumour, and then I went through two cycles of chemotherapy. So it all ended happily. Until the time. In 2016, after a control computed tomography scan was performed, the examination showed the presence of a tumour on the kidney. Again, doctors from the hospital in Wieliszew rose to the challenge. I was sent for surgery quickly and efficiently. After surgery, an examination showed that it was a rare papillary renal kidney cancer. I was lucky again, because the tumour did not metastasize and its excision should end this unpleasant adventure. Unfortunately, after four years, I heard the same diagnosis again – kidney cancer again. It turned out that the fight will not be so easy this time. Metastases to the lungs, liver, bone and second kidney have developed. A few months before the check-up tomography I was tired, my lung capacity was limited and my back was aching – the cancer was already making itself felt. In three months I lost 10 kg, with the height of 2 meters I weigh 83 kg.

The papillary renal kidney cancer is a rare neoplasm (about 10-15% of all kidney tumours). Oncologists say immunotherapy is the best treatment option as the first line procedure. Unfortunately, this treatment for my cancer is not reimbursed by the National Health Fund. In Western Europe, immunotherapy is successfully used as the first-line treatment for this type of kidney cancer.

Medical costs exceed my financial capacity. One dose of the drug costs PLN 13875.12, but unfortunately I have to cover even the costs of hospitalization in the amount of PLN 467.90, the National Health Fund will not cover them. The drug should be administered every 3 weeks. With the assumed treatment time of 2 years, this gives the cost of PLN 502,000. Of course, from the moment I started my career I have been paying fair and regular health insurance contributions. Unfortunately, as you can see, the Polish government does not consider it appropriate to finance aid for me when it is necessary.

On behalf of myself, my daughters and my wife, I am asking for help. Every penny and every share will allow me to start fighting cancer.

My husband is a hero. Not only my hero who supports me at every turn, not only the hero of our daughters, but also the hero of his own story. My husband's childhood was marked by great distress. Unfortunately, he was not given to experience parental care and family warmth. Despite adversities, he graduated from university and wanted to start a family, he wanted to have children he could love and raise like everyone else, he wanted to have a family full of warmth and love. Unfortunately, building a family was also marked by difficulties – in our case it was very difficult to get and maintain every next pregnancy, we lost four children. However, we also managed to overcome this obstacles, we have two wonderful daughters. Unfortunately, when everything started to go the way we dreamed it, the cancer reminds us of itself every few years. As a wife, I already know all natural methods, all health-promoting diets that we use, my husband has always played sports – but we are still forced by fate to play this merciless roulette.
