Fundraiser description
Milanek was born 8 months ago. The birth of a boy was the happiest day for his relatives and at the same time the beginning of the fight for life, health and mobility. Milanek was born with a very rare congenital defect of the right hand - radial hemimelia. This means a significant shortening of the forearm, deformed hand, stiff fingers and thumb underdevelopment [so-called floating thumb], what in everyday life means the inability to perform basic activities.

Throughout the entire pregnancy, it was not known whether the defects detected on prenatal tests would be associated with other serious syndromes. In addition, the deformed foot was confirmed [so-called clubfoot] on the left side. Without proper treatment, walking, jumping and running will become unattainable. Treatment of the foot lasts many years and should be started in the first months of a child's life, but the baby was born prematurely and had to gain adequate weight first. Moreover things got complicated with each passing day.
Two weeks after the birth, Milanek's mother was hospitalized due to postpartum complications, and shortly thereafter the boy had to face a serious infection. He was given a 50% chance of survival ... Milanek did not give up and this forced his parents to continue their fight for the efficiency and independence of their son.

The boy has already undergone dozens of medical visits, four castings on his left leg, incision of the Achilles tendon, and currently has a special derotation splint on his feet for 18 hours a day. In the meantime, after many difficulties related to the pandemic, it was possible to consult a sick hand at the Paley European Institute in Warsaw, where a world-renowned team has already performed thousands of recovery procedures in similar cases. Thanks to operations, children like Milanek can grab, throw, play like their peers. The cost of the procedure is about half a million zlotys, and it is best to do it in 10 months!
There is little time left, and it is very difficult to collect such an amount, at the same time bearing the costs of current treatment, consultations, travel, splints, special shoes. Milanek's parents alone will certainly not be able to finance the treatment of the hand. Someone could say that it is possible to live with one hand, but it is a life marked by many problems, especially when the child is growing and his body is still being shaped.
When one hand is not working, the defect of the entire posture worsens, the head deforms, and the risk of recurrence of the treated foot curvature increases. Thanks to two operations, Milanek has a real chance to live like his peers in the future, to enter adulthood with greater self-confidence. For many years, Milan's mother supported a humanitarian organization working for children, today she has to ask for help for her son.
Together, we can help Milan get his hand back and give him a better future. The boy's parents have experienced months of uncertainty and concern in anticipation of his birth, and will not be at peace until their child is given a chance to be efficient.
