Fundraiser description

“My name is Sebastian Posmyk. I am 35 years old and I have lived in Ostrołęka since I was born.

At the end of August 2016. I had an accident which resulted in a fracture of the spine and damage to the spinal cord. My condition was critical, but despite the doctors' diagnosis, I'm alive. Since then, I have been completely paralyzed. I can only move my head.

Like every young man, I had my own plans and dreams. From a young, strong man, I became a person completely dependent on others. I need round-the-clock care (I'm after a tracheotomy, I need suction every day, I have bedsores). I am fed enterally, catheterized, in a diaper. My only entertainment is watching TV, but I am not able to take the remote control in my hand. For 4 years I have been only once in rehabilitation reimbursed by the National Health Fund. As a result of rehabilitation, I was able to ride in a wheelchair and push myself off with my wrists. Unfortunately, after returning home, there was a regress, because I needed further rehabilitation. When I qualified for another rehabilitation, bedsores appeared. My condition prevented further treatment and I was sent home.

The situation in which I found myself is extremely difficult. I live with parents and two brothers on 45m2. The apartment is completely unsuitable for a physically disabled person. Our only source of income is my disability pension. Moreover, there is an alcohol problem in the family. Both the father and the brothers are heavy alcoholics. I am forced to witness: alcohol, fights, frequent police interventions. The only person I can count on is my mother. Unfortunately, she is an elderly, sick person (diabetic and after major spine surgery).

I have a dream ... I want to be independent, albeit to a small extent. I dream to look at the sky, feel the wind on my cheeks again, listen to people's laughter. These are ordinary things, but out of reach for me at the moment.

I remember being a strong, healthy and independent man. I know that this is the greatest gift of life, the most beautiful feeling a person can have. I am aware that I have a long way to go, but I will take up the gauntlet!

The only chance to make my dream come true is a rehabilitation stay in a private, specialized centre. Unfortunately, its cost far exceeds my financial capabilities. I have no family support. It is very difficult for me and I often get deeply depressed.

I am asking you for help in obtaining funds so that I can fight for a second, although slightly better life.”
