Kochani,

Michał jest już po operacji! To, co jeszcze niedawno wydawało się niemożliwe, stało się faktem. Cud wydarzył się dzięki Wam - ludziom, którzy zdecydowali się ratować serce Michała. Michał przeszedł cewnikowanie i operację planowo i bez komplikacji.

Fundraiser description

I am standing in front of you to beg for your help! My son Michał is growing weaker and weaker every single day, and without urgent heart surgery, he just won't make it....

We are over 11 years delayed with Michał's surgery. It was in 2007 that the doctors who opened my son's chest decided that his defect was too complex and did not want to take the risk with going ahead with the surgery. We heard the verdict - nothing can be done anymore. We were left empty-handed and with a slow countdown of weaker and weaker heartbeats. How many more are left? How long will Michał last? After years of searching, we managed to find Germany-located professor Malec for whom there is nothing impossible and who will undertake this surgery. This is the only chance to save my son. Unfortunately, it is a very expensive operation.

Michał Pawlak

Michał was supposed to be born healthy. We were all convinced about it. I and the doctors.... The tests did not show any cause for concern, but life quickly took a dark turn. Michał miraculously survived the first hours of his life. After 8 hours he became dull and blue, saturation showed only 80%... not enough oxygen was reaching his body! He was transported via helicopter to the Polish Mother's Centre in Łódź, where an extremely complicated heart defect was finally diagnosed. Hypoplasia of the right ventricle, tricuspid valve, overgrowth of the valve and pulmonary valve are only the beginning of his list of disorders.

He had just appeared in the world.... He was so small, so defenseless. I thought before the delivery that after his birth I would be able to hug him for hours in my arms, ensuring warmth and safety. Meanwhile, it was the hospital machines, angels watching the breath and every heartbeat that wrapped him in dozens of tubes and wires. Everything happened so quickly, and when they took him with a helicopter, I was terribly afraid that I wouldn't see him alive anymore...

After a week he underwent his first open-heart surgery, which saved his life, but also led to many health complications. Michał stopped three times. In fact, he was dying, and my heart was dying with him. After 8 months another operation was performed, and a year later - the so-called  Glenn procedure was carried out . My son was slowly recovering. It seemed to us that the storm, through which we had been sailing since Michał's birth, was beginning to weaken....

The next 3 years passed, followed by examinations, controls and supervision of even the slightest threats that may have occurred. In March 2007 Michał was to undergo the last stage of heart repair, the so-called Fontan-Kreutzer procedure. He was already on the operating table, the doctors opened him and... they concluded that it was too much of a risk; this was too complex of a defect and too high pressure in the pulmonary artery. It was over. That's all. We heard that nothing could be done anymore and an attempt to operate would kill him... We were supposed to enjoy what we had. Every day he is with us, because we don't know how many more of them are left...

11 years have passed since then and no one in Poland has undertaken this surgery. Michał grew up, he became almost a man. His heart has grown too and he can no longer handle it. His heart is beating with the rest of his strength, like a car, which has run out of fuel and is already driving on the vapors... At any moment it may stop. After a short walk Michał looks like after a marathon. Blue mouth, desperate catching breath, saturation 75%... His heart has been beating on credit for 11 years and it is to our door that a debt collector knocks to receive what is most precious - the life of our son. The only chance to pay is this "impossible" Fontana procedure and the man of impossible things doing it right away. We found him in Germany.

He is Professor Malec, a Polish cardiac surgeon who operates in a German clinic in Munster. A doctor who rescues children described by others as "unrescueable". We managed to consult Michał's heart with him and the professor said one magic word - we will operate! And then he said another one - this is the most urgent of the most urgent procedures! We cannot wait a moment. Michał's heart is already too weak...

After so many years, a ray of hope has finally appeared in our dramatically cloudy sky. Michał can be saved! I felt as if I had to give him a new birth - this time with a healthy heart. However, the valuation of this operation had to be changed - 29 thousand euro, i.e. over 130 thousand PLN. This is how much Michał's life costs. And I don't have anything to pay for it. That is why I am asking for help...

Every heart will stop one day, this is the order of things... Some will be healthy for 60 years, others 80. Some will fall in love; probably not one will be hurt. However, they will get a chance, they will get time to taste life and find their place in adulthood. Michał's heart, although it beats only 16 years old, does not have time anymore. He can't wait and without an urgent operation it will stop too quickly, too young... Forever... Professor Malec and the clinic in Germany are our only and last resort. Please help us to get this chance. Help save my son's life!
