Tadzio’s congenital heart defect is a threat to his life. URGENT help needed ❗️Surgery coming soon!

When a child comes into this world, an entirely new chapter of life begins for the parents – it is full of love, hope and dreams about the future. Every smile, every first step, every sound coming from the small lips is a treasure that the parents desire to protect. But what can one do when fear comes instead of joy? When the place of certainty that everything is going to be all right is taken by a frightening diagnosis?

Our son Tadzio had to defy the odds from the beginning. During the prenatal diagnostic test we were told that his heart is not developing properly. Unfortunately, this information was just the beginning...

While still pregnant, I had to undergo amniocentesis to make sure there are no genetic issues. The wait for the results of the genetic tests was one of the darkest periods in our life... The results revealed abnormalities – multiduplication of chromosome Xq38 was detected. This mutation can cause intellectual disability or behavioural issues, i.e. autism.

With each new week of the pregnancy, new developmental abnormalities were discovered. When our son was born, it turned out that the reality exceeded our worst nightmares. Tadzio was diagnosed with a life-threatening congenital heart defect!

The words spoken by the doctors destroyed our whole world and changed our daily life into a fight for every breath. Our son’s heart, which should be a symbol of life and strength, became the source of the biggest concerns and suffering. Each heartbeat, instead of bringing peace, is a continuous reminder that life is fragile...

Since Tadzio was born, he had to take special medicine that allowed him to breathe. On the sixth day of his life, his condition suddenly worsened and he was moved to the intensive care unit where his breathing had to be supported by a ventilator. At that time, Tadzio underwent the first surgery of his small heart, and each minute spent at the hospital was like eternity for us.

After many weeks in the intensive care unit, we were able to go home. Unfortunately, not for long... Four days later we were back in hospital. We spent another 3,5 weeks there, fighting for every bit of peace and health for our son.

Heart defect is not the only source of Tadzio’s suffering. It is suspected that he does not have the spleen, and for this reason each infection is very dangerous for him. Each fever is a potential sepsis for us and it may be life-threatening. We live in a constant fear for our son’s health.

Currently we are home and we are trying to make up for the time lost in the hospital. Tadzio is in need of an intensive rehabilitation, daily intake of medicine and special care. He also needs another heart surgery. Our cardiologist referred our son for a consultation in a specialistic clinic and there is a possibility of saving two ventricles of Tadzio’s heart. We got a green light from the clinic in Geneva where surgeries of complicated heart defects are conducted on children. The surgery is to take place at the beginning of 2025!
