Fundraiser description

Our son’s heart is like a ticking bomb, we don’t know when it will weaken. Tadzio already had three surgeries, the fourth in the US. The doctors in Poland have already done everything they could possibly do. The cost of our son's treatment is over 1 mln PLN.

Tadzio is a year and a half. He was born with an extremely rare complex heart defect - L-Transposition of the Great Arteries. This means that Tadzio's heart is inversely built, the heart chambers are incorrectly connected to the large vessels coming out of it. The blood supply route to the lungs was blocked, and there was a large hole in the ventricular septum. Additionally, a leaking and abnormally constructed tricuspid valve was diagnosed.

Tadzio was saved by treatment at Boston Children's Hospital, where - thanks to you and a quick fundraising campaign, our 15-month-old Tadzio underwent in November the first of two planned surgeries there. Cardiac surgeons have put a banding on the pulmonary artery, which increases the pressure in the left ventricle - this will prepare Tadzio’s heart for the second surgery

Tadzio Kruczek

The operation was successfully completed and Tadzio was discharged from the hospital only after 5 days. The good news is not over! The doctors assessed his heart and stated that his heart is strong and ready for another surgery. Unfortunately, everyone's worried about the growing leak on the tricuspid valve. This means that time is pressing us and the operation should take place within the next 4-6 months at the latest.

That's why we started this fundraiser for Tadzio's fourth operation. This time our son will face the most important, but also the most complicated treatment - Double Switch probably in the Rastelli-Mustard variant. This surgery is extremely rare. The goal is to make a proper connection between the heart chambers and the great vessels coming out of it. The doctors in Boston feel positive about it. If all goes well, Tadzio has a chance for a normal joyful life.

Lack of surgical treatment may mean progressive heart failure and transplantation. This means a decline in the quality of life, chronic fatigue, breathlessness, weakness, swellings and a slow painful premature death.

Tadzio has experienced more than most adults in his entire life. He's had three heart surgeries and another one coming soon. In total, he has spent almost three months of his short life in hospitals.

We need thousands of people with good hearts to fight for Tadzio once again!

We ask for your help!

Tadzio’s parents,

Magda and Piotr
