Campaign description
Ticheli is a small village in the northern Ghana. Full of kids who are happy whenever they can come to school but they are no stranger to difficulties and obstacles. Problems of limited access to education, healthcare services and personal hygiene products, just to name a few.
For the past 5 years AKRA Foundation has been supporting youngest members of Ticheli village with their educational challenges.

This year we would like to organize workshops to break taboo around menstruation and to provide our students with basic hygiene and health knowledge. We also want to equip our students and other female members of the village with reusable pads.
The problem of period poverty in Ghana is complex and often stems from everyday life struggles of many Ghanaians. First of all, lack of reliable source of information. Next, problem with affording and/or limited access to menstrual hygiene products.

Last but not least, poverty, many families in Ghana struggle to afford food, let alone any kind of hygiene products. All of this sometimes forces women to use old pieces of clothing or leaves as pads, which can cause recurring infections and severe health issues.
Workshops will be conducted by experienced staff, including a nurse from Tamale, specializing in personal hygiene, healthcare and sex education classes. One of the main topics will be menstruation, which is still a taboo in many families. We want to ensure our kids have necessary knowledge and supplies to better understand and take care of their own health.
Funds and contributions will be used to remunerate Ghanaian staff who is going to conduct the workshops as well as on the necessary hygiene products and reusable pads for the participants and other female members of the village.
Together we can help young people of Ticheli improve their quality of life. Thank you all for your help!
