Fundraiser description

The diagnosis made me go weak at the knees. I kept telling myself with tears in my eyes this must have been a mistake. In the spring of 2021, we learned that Olesia had cancer - NEUROBLASTOMA.

Two weeks ago, when we thought our battle had finally ended, Olesia's condition suddenly got worse. As it turned out, she had developed another cancer - ACUTE LYMPHOBLASTIC LEUKEMIA!

Our story started in 2021 when Olesia was ten months old. That's when we noticed a bump on our daughter's neck. In the hospital, the doctor who examined her told us she had a tumor that caused pressure on a common carotid artery. Two days before Olesia's first birthday, we received test results: it was neuroblastoma.

Instead of organizing birthday celebrations, a party, and a cake, we desperately searched for help.

We started the treatment at the first clinic that responded to us - in Spain. Thankfully, all tests and examinations ruled out the high-risk neuroblastoma, so we only traveled to Spain for regular check-ups every 3-6 months. During our last visit in October 2023, we were told that the tumor had shrunk, which was great news! We were relieved.

Unfortunately, our joy did not last long. Two weeks ago, Olesia's health condition worsened again. She became weaker and lost her appetite. After the blood tests had shown a hemoglobin level of 39 (the correct value is >120) and 68% blast cells, Olesia was immediately transferred to the ICU. The next day, the blast level increased to 87%. She had leukemia.

I barely remember the day we got the diagnosis. I almost fainted when I heard it. How was that even possible when only a couple of months earlier, we had finished our battle with neuroblastoma?

We had to make a quick choice between staying in war-stricken Ukraine without any guarantee of successful treatment and going back to Barcelona.

Although we were worried whether Olesia would survive such a long-distance road trip (traveling by plane was impossible), we drove to Budapest airport. We landed in Barcelona at 9 am. Despite Olesia's critical condition and high risk of infection, she made it to the clinic. It was the most challenging twenty-four hours in our lives.

In the hospital, Olesia underwent an examination and started chemotherapy. Her condition has improved since, although the treatment caused some side effects. However, we know we did everything we could for our daughter, and we're on the right path to recovery.

The pain we feel is indescribable, though. On Sunday, when Olesia turned four, everyone called to wish her a happy birthday. Our only wish was to wake up from this nightmare.

Although we are scared to death and hold back our tears, we don't want Olesia to see us like that. That is why we pull ourselves together, make jokes, and stay positive as much as possible.

Sadly, the costs of the treatment are high. We came here because we had no choice. We had to save our daughter's life! Now, we cannot sleep at night because soon we won't be able to afford another medical invoice
and cancer therapy will be stopped.

It's not easy to ask for help, but if one's child's life is at stake, a parent will do everything to save it. As a mother, I am begging you for support! My daughter is only four years old and has her whole life ahead of her.

Please help me save my daughter! All I want for her is to survive this battle.

Olesia's mom
