2-year-old Bartuś is fighting for his life❗️Help this little warrior from the oncology ward combat neuroblastoma!

Our son Bartuś has started his fight against cancer and we are fighting for his life and really need your help! Neuroblastoma attacks mainly little children... It is a very tricky and aggressive type of cancer. In a couple of weeks, our life took a 180 degree turn... Today, we only want Bartuś to be healthy and alive, nothing else matters. We know that there is a long road ahead of us but we have to start a fundraiser right now because without support, we will not be able to cope with the situation.

At the beginning of the year, there were no indications that Bartuś will become a child fighting for his life on the oncology ward... That he will be attacked by one of the most dangerous childhood cancers. That hospital will become a familiar place and that our son will have to immediately undergo chemotherapy, because the cancer will be in his bones and bone marrow... That he will not be able to move his hand or leg because of the pain. That we will have to tell our story and ask for help...

Bartuś is 2,5 years old. In February, he started complaining of abdominal pain... Then, there were some issues with mobility, his gait was strange and he started limping. His whole body was in pain and painkillers were not helping. Full of concerns, we took our son to ED as we had the feeling that something was wrong... Unfortunately, we had been dismissed from the ED but we did not give up, we know our child. We went to another ED where Bartuś was tested... These tests showed some lesions on the bones. At first, bone cancer was suspected...

It is not possible to describe our feelings when we heard words like “cancer”, “metastases” and “prognosis” that applied to our beloved son who means the world to us, who is our whole world, who has just started his life... It turned out that the lesions on the bones were metastases, not the primary tumour. The primary tumour in adrenal gland was hidden, localised in a very difficult place – fortunately, the doctor was diligent and managed to diagnose our son. Next, a biopsy was conducted which confirmed neuroblastoma.

Cancer in children progresses in a very aggressive manner – in the case of Bartuś, the metastases were already in the bones and bone marrow, tumours were found in his legs, hips, spine and in the skull. The disease had been progressing really rapidly. Our son’s condition had worsened dramatically... The pain was so excruciating that Bartuś stopped walking... He was laying down, not even able to turn around or move his hand or leg, because it was so painful...

He is after two chemotherapy cycles... Chemotherapy helped him get back on his feet, he is able to play and run again. We are grateful to the doctors as they took action without delay. However, we know that we will have to fight for a couple of months and that there are tough times ahead of us. Bartuś has to finish chemotherapy, then undergo surgery, start megachemotherapy with autologous stem cell transplantation and immunotherapy. The last stage of treatment is the therapy to prevent recurrence – unfortunately, it is available only in the USA and non-refundable. Our son will receive a couple of dosages of neuroblastoma vaccine so his body is able to destroy cancer cells in case cancer returns. Unfortunately this type of cancer recurs frequently. With each recurrence, the fight is more difficult, and chances for a successful therapy become smaller.

We are aware that this fight is going to be very difficult but we also know that cancer is not a life sentence and that our son can be healthy and alive. To make this happen, his treatment has to be finished. Unfortunately, the cost of preventive therapy is around 2 million zlotys ! We know that cancer treatment may result in various complications and we need to secure our finances for various scenarios... That is why we wanted to start this fundraiser now.
