Fundraiser description

My name is Julia and I am 19 years old; I’m facing death and I’m very afraid. The treatment I’m raising funds for is often called last chance to live. When leukemia returns, Car-T therapy gives hope for complete recovery. I believe it will succeed, and I will be able to finally forget about this horrible disease, which I have been fighting with for the past 3 years.

It’s just the beginning of my life and I’m already concerned about my uncertain future. I’m studying medicine on Jagielloński University in Kraków (Poland). I was diagnosed with Acute lymphoblastic leukemia 3 years ago. Chemotherapy treatment had led to a complete remission of the disease and I was able to go back home. Last year I graduated from high school in Bielsko- Biała, I passed final exams and I started my studies. I was getting used to living a normal life… unfortunately it was too soon for a celebration.

After completing the first term, I came back home for winter break. Fatigue, bruises and frightening diagnosis – re-induce. Once again, I recalled my past struggles with leukemia. It’s in the oncology hospital where the most terrible fights take place. I had wished to never go back there, however fate wasn’t on my side.

I then started treatment in the National Institute of Oncology in Gliwice. After obtaining a second reemission I had my bone marrow transplanted from an unrelated donor. I’m greatly indebted to her. At that time, she saved my life...

Despite the treatment, cancer cells are still active in my body. This is the main indication for carrying out Car T-cells therapy. This is the most modern immunotherapy which consists of modification of lymphocytes T taken from the patient. Modifications are carried out by laboratories in the USA and Switzerland. This is not experimental therapy. It has been authorized by the European Medicines Agency for more than two years.

Treatment is reimbursed in over 20 European countries. However, Poland does not belong to this group. Therefore, I request your financial help in raising necessary funds because the cost of treatment exceeds my family’s financial capacity. I will be immensely grateful for every donation, even the smallest one.

Thank you all in advance!
