Tiny hand and big suffering. Wiktor needs our help.

Our son was born with an obstructed esophagus, a deformed radius of the right hand and an undeveloped thumb. The condition of our child was determined after birth as very serious, requiring surgery as soon as possible. 

Wiktor was separated from us at once. On the third day after he was born, he had an operation that saved his life. He spent the next two weeks on a respirator, in an incubator, in the intensive care unit. He was alone, apart from the nursing staff, all the time and was not able to get to know us, our touch, our love and we could not hug him. All he knew was pain, fear, a multitude of soulless machines and tubes in his tiny body. Parents were not allowed to visit due to the pandemic. As a mother, I could only stay at the incubator for one hour a day, my husband was not allowed to visit at all.

He fought bravely alone there and survived. After more than a month of life, Wiktor left the hospital and met his father. We were so happy that we are finally together. However, it wasn't the end of the fight. Due to many health problems, his unstable condition and some as yet unknown problems Wiktor needs constant reviews with doctors and specialists just to keep him alive.

So far Wiktor requires widening of the esophagus, because he only takes liquid food, solid foods cause him choking and vomiting. Besides, Wiktor has been undergoing rehabilitation since he was two months old. Due to the hand defect, he had an asymmetry of the body, he could hardly learn basic activities, such as lying on his stomach, turning or sitting down.

So now the search for specialists all over the Poland begins. We have had many medical consultations during which none of the doctors was able to determine the type of defect or the method of treatment needed. We were powerless. In the end, we managed to find a doctor who has helped many children with this type of defect. We were already at the first consultation, during which he decided that he would undertake Wiktor's surgery. 

The cost estimated for the operations exceed our financial capabilities and so we are making every effort to raise funds to an enable Wiktor to have the surgery he needs. The treatment of our son had quickly consumed our personal funds and we have no chance of finding more money ourselves. So we are asking for help from you, as much as you can spare would be most welcome.  This is the only way to remove at least one burden of disability from Wiktor's life.
