Suffering has dominated my child's childhood. I am fighting for my daughter's future.

Looking at her suffer brings me physical pain. Sometimes the fear takes my breath away. Sometimes I think that fate keeps kicking us down and we just stand up to the challenge day after day.

Wiktoria is a teenage girl and the only thing she can say about living is that sometimes it hurts less. She doesn't have a life of a typical teenager - no chance to make plans for future when sickness looms over her every day.

An illness which may make her unable to move and breathe by herself one day. For me, a mother, this is a terrifying image that I can't break free from. I fear for every day.

Wiktoria deals with many conditions: Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Chiari malformation, Klippel-Feil syndrome, dehydrated and deformed spine. She loses feeling and her muscles are very weak. The already long list just seems to keep getting longer. Further diagnostic weighs us down: urinary system defect with cirrhosis of the left kidney, ventricular septal defect, neurogenic skoliosis... I'm in despair, since the actual treatment isn't enough. We need systematic specialist rehabilitation that will keep my daughter stable. I know that if the rehabilitation is done with proper commitment, Wiktoria has a chance to feel better in her day to day life. Living without pain is one of her biggest dreams.

I'm doing what I can to support her fight. I want to provide a future for her, but I just keep hitting the wall. Doctor visits and specialist consultations have no end and generate enormous costs. The money we cannot acquire stands in the way of continuing what we started.

Wiktoria has a chance to undergo specialized surgery in the USA. Doctors have only one condition: she needs to strengthen herself by rehabilitation. Things that seems trivial to an able bodied person - movement, breathing... Moving without help is a great success in the eye of the disabled. Sickness taught us to appreciate everything - every day seems to be a miracle, but knowing that it could be better makes us ready to keep on fighting. 

Wiktoria has a chance to live a good life. For every day to feel like an opportunity, not a threat. I’m aware that I have to do everything for my child, but I can't get past the cost issue alone.
