LONG VERSION :)
Over the last two years, while working on WSJT-Z, I have received many offers of donations from some of our generous users.
I have politely declined every time, explaining that I don't do this for profit. My main driver has been my desire to improve the great software that is WSJT-X.
While some features were (and still are) frowned upon by some, I know for a fact, that these very features allow digital modes like FT8 to be run by disabled hams that previously were not able to operate efficiently due to their disabilities. Others use features like filtering and the extended information on the RX screen, without using the automation. There's something here for everyone.
Either way, we have managed to build a small community around Z, and I hope that this community can do more than just make thousands of QSOs :)
To date, Z has been downloaded around 60,000 times. This includes all the versions I’ve released - 110 already! And no, the earth hasn’t stopped turning, Z hasn’t caused the end of ham radio, and our 3kHz part of the band has not been filled up by robots!
So here's my idea - if a fraction of Z users will contribute to our fundraising project, the hundreds of hours I've spent at my desk building/debugging/fixing the software would get a whole other meaning to me, but not just for me...
All the funds will automatically go to a Polish charity "NA RATUNEK" - which helps kids with cancer. The Saving Kids With Cancer Foundation | Na Ratunek, pays for the expensive meds, prosthetics, treatments abroad and more. They're a member of Childhood Cancer International – Transforming the lives of kids with cancer everywhere!.
