Fundraiser description
We are starting a fight to save Bartek’s tiny heart. Doctors have no doubts –surgery is the only chance to save Bartek’s life! There's a bomb ticking in our son's chest, when will it explode? We cannot predict this, so we must secure funds for the surgery as soon as possible. It's hard to live with the thought that the worst can happen at any moment!
During the pregnancy, Bartek was diagnosed with an extremely complex and rare heart defect that consists of four serious abnormalities: congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries (L-TGA), ventricular septal defect (VSD), pulmonary stenosis (PS) and tricuspid valve regurgitation. It is hard to believe that all these defects occurred in Bartek’s tiny heart. His case is extremely rare and affects only one in four thousand newborns with heart defects.
Based on consultations with Boston's Children Hospital and SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital, we have learned that Bartek needs to be operated within the next 3 months. The only surgery that can save our son's heart is the complex Double Switch surgery.
There is a very limited number of cardiac surgeons in the world who can help our son. Unfortunately, none of them operate in Poland. The double switch surgery is very rare and complex. Its purpose is to properly connect the chambers of the heart and the great vessels that carry blood to and from the heart. Lack of the surgery is a threat to our son's life. The right ventricle is not designed to support the systemic circulation, which means that it is becoming weaker every day. Furthermore, the defect of the tricuspid valve is worsening Bartek’s condition even more. In the short term, this will lead to hypoxia and will damage Bartek’s right chamber of the heart.
We have recently consulted Bartek’s case in Boston's Children Hospital and received an estimate of the surgery cost. Bartek needs to have the surgery before he turns two, so we have very little time. Every day without the surgery is a threat to our son's life.
The success of the surgery depends on the condition of the heart, and our son's heart gets weaker every day. We have very little time left, therefore we would like to ask for help in raising money. We believe that with your help we will be able to save Bartek’s life and health. We need thousands of people with good hearts. Please help us! Grateful parents of Bartek.
